Teacher for General Course at a Distance - Mimi Folk High School
Folkhögskolefören GyllenhusetVästra Götalands län, Göteborg
Previous experience is desired
Mimi Folk High School is part of the Folk High School Association Gyllenhuset, where Sweden's Fountain House, the Gyllenkroken Foundation, and the Women's Center in Bergsjön collaborate to create study opportunities for people with mental health issues. We are growing in our premises on Andra Långgatan and in our distance courses and are now looking for a teacher who wants to initiate, develop, and coordinate our new General Course at a distance.
Our activities are aimed at individuals who, due to mental health issues, need a safe, trusting, and restorative study environment. Currently, we offer a general course at basic and upper secondary level, as well as the course Omtag, which supports participants in establishing routines, leaving home, finding study techniques, and practicing social participation. We also run everyday distance courses for the target group. For the fall, we plan to expand our course offerings, including a new general course with distance education.
We work salutogenically and relationally, with strong inspiration from the working methods of Fountain Houses: We do things together, side by side, focusing on the healthy and on each person's potential to grow.
As a teacher with us, you are both an educator and a relationship builder. You are present in the participants' study everyday life and a central force in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging distance environment. You work closely with participants and together with colleagues to build a study culture where participation, democracy, and community are self-evident.
Your mission includes, among other things:
Initiation and coordination of the General Course at a distance
– Be proactive in building the course's structure, content, and pedagogical methods.
– Coordinate planning, digital routines, and collegial collaboration around the course.
– Contribute to creating a cohesive, sustainable, and restorative distance environment for both participants and staff.
Digital pedagogy and support
– Use digital tools in a safe, creative, and inclusive manner.
– Create structure and clarity that makes it easier for participants to engage and succeed at a distance.
– Support participants in daring to log in, participate in group discussions, and handle technology.
Community and presence at a distance
– Build relationships through continuous contact and encouragement.
– Create social spaces online: breaks, group discussions, joint activities.
– Reach out to participants who withdraw or need extra support.
Collegial learning
– Share your digital competence and contribute to developing the team's working methods.
– Be a key person in strengthening the entire school's distance pedagogy.
Teaching, preferably in Swedish and English
– Plan and conduct teaching at the upper secondary level.
– Work individually tailored and relationship-based, focusing on participants' education, recovery, and goals.
You are expected to work on-site from our premises on Andra Långgatan in Gothenburg.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who:
– has subject competence, preferably in Swedish and English
– has a very good ability to build relationships and work proactively
– has experience or a strong interest in distance pedagogy and digital tools
– has patience, flexibility, and commitment
– has an understanding of and preferably personal experience with mental health issues
– has self-awareness and thrives in a close, collaborative team
– is comfortable hosting others' emotions and difficulties
– has experience in folk education, social work, and pedagogy
Personal suitability is the most important factor.
Application
To apply for the position of teacher at Mimi Folk High School, we ask you to answer four questions. Your answers will help us understand how you work in meeting our target group and how you think about the role. You do not need to write a personal letter; it is sufficient to answer the questions based on your experiences and your approach and attach a CV.
1. Why are you applying for the position of teacher for the General Course at a distance at Mimi Folk High School?
Here we want to understand your motivation and why our target group and our working methods feel right for you.
2. How do you work relationally and proactively in meeting participants, especially in a distance environment?
Please describe how you build safety, presence, and participation online.
3. How do you support individuals with experience of mental health issues to participate, develop, and feel secure in their studies?
We are interested in concrete approaches, strategies, and examples.
4. How would you go about starting up, structuring, and coordinating a new distance education within the General Course?
Here we want to get a picture of how you think about planning, digital pedagogy, routines, and collaboration.
