Lecturer in Translation Studies
http://www.su.se/svefler/ is looking for a lecturer in translation studies. The Department of Swedish and Multilingualism conducts research and education in Swedish and Nordic languages, Swedish as a second language, bilingualism (Center for Bilingualism Research), as well as interpretation and translation (Institute for Interpretation and Translation). The undergraduate program encompasses one of the largest educational assignments at the Faculty of Humanities. Institute for Interpretation and Translation (TÖI)
The Institute for Interpretation and Translation (TÖI) at Stockholm University offers training in public sector interpretation, conference interpreting, sign language interpreting, and translation. We are now seeking a lecturer in interpretation for a permanent position as a lecturer.
Job Responsibilities
The person employed as a lecturer in translation studies with a focus on interpretation will primarily teach and assess practical courses in spoken language interpretation, but will also work with course leadership and course development. Networking and professional development are integral parts of the position. Administrative tasks and leadership assignments may also be included.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for employment as a lecturer, a degree from a relevant university program or equivalent competence must be obtained by the application deadline, along with demonstrated pedagogical skills. Furthermore, the applicant must be an experienced interpreting teacher with excellent knowledge of Swedish and at least one other interpreting language.
All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the applicant to have the ability to collaborate and suitability to fulfill the job responsibilities.
Assessment Criteria
Great emphasis is placed on the applicant's pedagogical skills as well as good collaborative ability and personal suitability. A university degree in translation studies and completion of a teacher training program in interpretation at the university level are meritorious. Experience in teaching interpretation at the university level and practical course administration and course leadership is also advantageous.
Additionally, university pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is meritorious. An applicant who lacks university pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits must undergo such training within the first two years of employment. Applicants who believe they possess equivalent knowledge without formal training should explain in their application how the knowledge was acquired and why it corresponds to the competence provided by formal education.
About the Position
The position is full-time and permanent. A six-month probationary period may apply. The position of lecturer at Stockholm University does not entail promotion opportunities to higher scientific positions. Start date is 1/8 2026.
