Subject/Subject Description

Criminology studies crime and reactions to crime. At the Department of Criminology, research is conducted on criminal policy, victim issues, the development of crime over time, and the causes of crime at the individual, group, and societal levels. We conduct teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels and offer doctoral education.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels in the field of criminology. Teaching includes course responsibility, instruction, supervision, and examination of students. The teaching is primarily conducted in Swedish. The applicant is expected to participate in pedagogical development work and the department's internal work and contribute to collaboration with the surrounding community. The job responsibilities also include research, including actively seeking external research funding. The position may also include administrative tasks and management assignments.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, one must have a doctoral degree in criminology or equivalent scientific competence and demonstrated pedagogical skills. Equivalent scientific competence means a doctoral degree in another subject within the social sciences, humanities, or law, where the dissertation and/or continued research has clearly addressed criminological issues.

The applicant must possess both the ability to collaborate and the skills and suitability necessary to perform the job responsibilities effectively.

To perform the job responsibilities, the applicant must have documented proficiency in using Swedish in both spoken and written form at a professional level. This can be demonstrated through documented experience of teaching in Swedish.

Assessment Criteria

Particular and equal importance is placed on pedagogical and scientific competence.

Scientific competence is demonstrated through scientific merit over the past five years.

Pedagogical competence is typically demonstrated through teaching at both the undergraduate and advanced levels. The competence should be well documented in a way that allows for the assessment of the quality of the pedagogical work.

Great importance is placed on documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and coworkers.

Importance is placed on having successfully planned, applied for, and received funding for research projects from external funders.

Importance is placed on administrative competence as well as the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community and to inform about research and development work.

Having a higher education pedagogical qualification of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is meritorious.

About the Position

The position is permanent and full-time, with the start date to be agreed upon.

The position includes competence and research time according to applicable terms and conditions agreements.

Applicants who lack higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits and who are not assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways must undergo such training during the first two years of employment.

Additional Information

During the first two years, at least 50% teaching is required, unless the staffing situation at the department allows otherwise.
