Economist for the Defense Technology Department

The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency that conducts world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, such as underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

Do you want to work with operational finance? In the Defense Technology Department, you will have a central role as an economist close to the core operations, where finance meets research to support Sweden's total defense. You will work broadly and variably with everything from ongoing accounting and project follow-up to analyses and qualified support for managers and project leaders.

About the Position

In the role of economist in the Defense Technology Department, you will have a varied job where you work with finance closely related to core operations. You will support the department in various tasks such as:

  • Maintaining and registering, for example, project, quote, and order registers in the financial system.
  • Quality assurance during project invoicing.
  • Ongoing bookkeeping, follow-up, and year-end closing.
  • Financial analyses and various investigation assignments.
  • Supporting the department's managers and project leaders in the various phases of the projects.

You will be one of three economists in the department's secretariat together with administrators and case officers. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the department's controller and will be an important support for budgeting and financial follow-up/forecasting of the department and our projects. You will also collaborate with other economists at FOI and be part of an interdepartmental economic group within the agency that together develops FOI's routines and processes in the accounting area.

About the Unit

The secretariat staff is part of the department's daily operations by supporting managers and having close dialogues with project leaders and other employees. The secretariat currently consists of a department secretary, several unit administrators, case officers, and department economists. The department consists of nearly 300 employees who work with fundamental and applied research to support Sweden's total defense.

Do you have the competence profile we need?

Requirements

We see that you have:

  • a university degree in economics or equivalent knowledge that FOI assesses as equivalent,
  • current work experience in finance and at least three years of documented experience in accounting over the past five years,
  • good knowledge of Excel,
  • very good knowledge of Swedish and English.

We are looking for someone who is structured and quality-conscious and has a good ability to independently prioritize your tasks and take responsibility for their completion. You are service-oriented and have an easy time collaborating with others. Furthermore, you are self-driven, which means you take initiative within the framework of your assignment, make your own decisions, and ensure that the work is carried out with high quality. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities!

The work will mainly take place on-site due to the nature of the operations at FOI in Kista.

Meritorious

It is an advantage if you have:

  • experience in financial work within a government agency with various funding forms,
  • experience working in the financial system UBW (Agresso),
  • worked with project finance.
