Summer Job as an Economist at the Swedish Competition Authority

Do you want to work with issues that concern all citizens? Are you interested in procurement and competition? Do you want to develop in a stimulating and pleasant work environment and work with varied and complex issues? Then the Swedish Competition Authority is for you.

We are currently looking for someone studying economics with a focus on industrial organization, applied microeconomics, econometrics, or similar, who wants to work this summer from June to August.

As a summer economist with us, you will work in our Chief Economist Unit.

About the Chief Economist Unit

The Chief Economist Unit is responsible for the economic analysis in the cases handled by the Swedish Competition Authority. The unit also participates in the planning and preparation of cases and ensures that the economic analysis is correct.

Your Responsibilities

  • You will perform economic analysis work based on established theory and solid empirical data, independently or as a participant in a group.
  • You will conduct economic analysis work in case law matters concerning, among other things, merger assessments, abuse of dominant position, cartels, or competition-restricting public sales activities.
  • You will collect, analyze, and structure data.
  • You will conduct empirical investigations.
  • You will compile and compare economic analyses.
  • You will conduct literature studies.

Qualifications

  • You have a bachelor's degree in economics with a focus on industrial organization, applied microeconomics, econometrics, or similar.
  • You are studying at the master's level and will obtain your master's degree in 2026 or 2027.
  • You have experience with R.
  • You can speak and write English and Swedish fluently.

You have good collaboration skills, sound judgment, commitment, and high integrity. You have strong analytical skills.

Meritorious:

  • Experience in competition economic analyses.
  • Experience with STATA.
  • Good writing skills.
  • Experience working as a research assistant.
  • Knowledge of competition law regulations.
