Strategic Purchaser

Do you want to work with exciting procurements and deals that contribute to strengthening Sweden's national security? Do you find it easy to collaborate and drive changes in purchasing together with others? At the Swedish Armed Forces, you will have a key role where your work makes a difference every day.

About FMLOG and the Purchasing Unit

The Swedish Armed Forces' purchasing unit is located within the FMLOG (Swedish Armed Forces Logistics) and is responsible for the Armed Forces' procurements and purchases in accordance with applicable procurement legislation. The work we carry out is crucial for the Armed Forces' supply as well as strategic and operational success. We work according to a well-established category management methodology.

The purchasing unit consists of seven departments geographically spread across Sweden. We are now looking for strategic purchasers for our department of operational goods and services. We are unpretentious, helpful, and value mutual trust. Our daily work is characterized by continuous professional development while we recognize the importance of well-being and balance – therefore, we apply flexible working hours and have the opportunity for training three hours a week during working hours.

Main Responsibilities

In your role as a strategic purchaser, you will among other things:

  • Independently plan and conduct procurements of varying complexity from developing commercial strategies, conducting needs analyses and market surveys prior to procurement, to developing procurement documents, performing bid evaluations, and leading supplier negotiations while ensuring that business integrity is maintained.
  • Be responsible for maintaining strong business relationships with your suppliers and ensuring continuous contract management and follow-up of your suppliers.
  • Build and develop strong relationships with our clients and customers within the Armed Forces' organization.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position include:

  • Academic degree in law, economics, logistics, purchasing, or a related field, or vocational training with a commercial focus and relevant work experience.
  • At least 3 years of current experience in conducting procurements.
  • Excellent communication skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Personal Attributes

We value a person who is structured, goal-oriented, stable, and solution-focused, as well as having the ability to bring people together and build strong relationships with your clients and stakeholders in a receptive manner. You have a very good ability to independently plan, organize, and drive your work forward. You are persistent and take responsibility for delivering good results. The ability to analyze and see the big picture to meet the Armed Forces' purchasing needs is of great importance. It is important that you are a team player and value the team before the individual.

Meritorious

It is meritorious if you have any of the following experiences:

  • Experience in category-driven purchasing.
  • Experience with procurement regulations LOU/LUFS and contract law.
  • Experience in business negotiations.
  • Experience in project management or project work.
