Job Advertisement: Vote Counters and Counting Group Leaders

On Sunday, September 13, 2026, elections will be held for the parliament, regional, and municipal councils.

The County Administrative Board is the regional electoral authority responsible for the final vote counting.

We are looking for individuals who thrive in a structured environment, are accustomed to working within given frameworks and regulations, and have a societal interest. If you are also a meticulous person with a good sense of numbers, you will fit well into the role of an employee in the final vote counting after election day.

About the Job

The tasks include:

• as a vote counter, counting, reviewing, and to some extent making preliminary assessments of ballots and compiling results.
• as a counting group leader, being responsible for the counting group's work and assisting registrars in recording election results.

We are looking for approximately 35 vote counters and 8 counting group leaders.

The employment is a fixed-term position during the period of September 14 – 25, 2026. Working hours will be approximately 08:00 – 17:00, with possible overtime. The end date and working hours are preliminary based on voter turnout. To be eligible for employment, you must be able to work all days.

Before the work starts, we will conduct a mandatory, paid training session of about three hours. The training will take place in the evening at one occasion at the end of August or the beginning of September.

Interviews will be conducted during the day in week 16.

About You

For this role, we want you to:

• be at least 18 years old by election day and a Swedish citizen
• have good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written
• not run as a candidate for a party in the 2026 elections, as you would be considered biased if you simultaneously run for parliament, regional, or municipal councils
• be able to work between 08:00 – 17:00 on all weekdays from September 14 to September 25, 2026.

You should have an interest in and understanding of the democratic process. You should be meticulous, dexterous, and able to count ballots efficiently with legal security and quality results. You also have the ability to follow instructions and specified safety regulations and to carry out work within clearly defined time frames. The work can at times be monotonous. Previous experience with similar tasks in connection with elections is an advantage. We place great importance on personal suitability.

The work will be carried out in suitable premises adapted for functional variations. Our premises are located in central Gävle, which provides good communication opportunities.
