Your task

Part of the unit's work consists of distribution calculations for district heating and cooling. The calculations are performed in a calculation model, which helps us dimension the distribution systems.

As a summer employee in the Energy Systems unit within the Heat & Cooling business area, you will work on reducing the execution speed of an existing Python script. This script calculates our district heating customers' effect, flow, supply temperature, and return temperature signatures, developed by three previous summer employees. Your task will be to stitch the code into an even better functioning whole and minimize the execution time.

You will also develop a model to categorize customers based on their effect and return temperature signatures so that they are placed in one of about five standard categories. This also includes proposing the five standard categories.

In addition, further assignments in data analysis and programming may become available.

A summer job with us usually covers ten working weeks, distributed over two work shifts with 2–3 weeks of vacation in between.

Your team

In the Energy Systems unit, we are responsible for optimizing and developing district cooling and heating systems to create secure, cost-effective, and sustainable energy deliveries to the people of Gothenburg.

About 15 employees work in the unit, either as energy system analysts, development engineers, development leaders, or energy system optimizers. We look forward to complementing our team with an engaged and curious student during the summer of 2026!

Your skills

We are looking for someone who takes great personal responsibility and values structure and high quality in their work. The work is done with support and guidance from colleagues, while you contribute to good collaboration and a positive team spirit.

You who are applying have;

• An ongoing education, at a level equivalent to a master's degree in engineering with a technical focus, preferably in data, mathematics, and/or programming.
• You are in your 3rd or 4th year of your education.
• Interest in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis.
• Skills to work in Python.
• Experience working in Excel and Access from Microsoft.
• Analytical and good at self-management.
