Description
The City Environment Administration has a comprehensive responsibility for the city's public spaces and overall accessibility.
We work to create accessible, attractive, and vibrant urban environments and natural areas. The administration owns and manages the tram network in Gothenburg. Approximately 900 people work in the administration.
The City Environment Administration is part of the urban development administrations in Gothenburg City. Job Responsibilities
We are looking for someone who wants to be an important piece in our work to welcome 400 summer youth from grade 8 to high school. As a supervisor, you will be responsible for a group of young people at a time, spread over three periods. You will work together with about 20 colleagues and welcome youth from all over Gothenburg. Our workplace is the city's parks, green areas, and swimming areas. You are responsible for your own work team but work closely with your colleagues.
The summer begins with a thorough introduction to prepare you for the role of supervisor, followed by weekly check-ins.
Supervision of youth takes place over approximately 10 weeks during the summer in various types of practical work such as:
- Cleaning
- Weeding
- Painting/staining
- Participating in activities in the city's parks and other simpler outdoor tasks
The role involves supervising the youth in practical assignments, teaching simple work methods, and providing necessary work materials such as tools and equipment. You are also responsible for creating an inclusive group dynamic and adapting to all youth.
The purpose of the work is to help create more job opportunities for Gothenburg's youth and to contribute to a safe and attractive city. Our goal is for each youth to have the opportunity to develop and prepare for future career choices.
The assignment also includes planning and executing practical tasks together with the youth, as well as coordinating and collaborating with regular staff. As a supervisor, you will also handle simpler administrative tasks such as attendance reporting and writing certificates for the youth.
The assignment runs from June 9 to August 19 without vacation leave.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Has completed high school education
- Has experience leading others or has been a group leader, coach, project manager, or has other experience leading groups of young people for at least 2 months
- Has a B driver's license for a manual transmission vehicle
- Is fluent in Swedish, both spoken and written
Meritorious:
- Ongoing post-secondary education
- Previous experience in green maintenance
- Previous experience working with youth with disabilities
We are looking for someone with a passionate interest in working with youth. It is important that you are comfortable in a leadership role and can meet the needs of the youth, as well as understand that each individual needs to be met at their level. You enjoy organizing and coordinating tasks and have a pedagogical approach. It is important that you have a good ability to learn new tasks and that you are very flexible in your work. We are looking for someone who is unpretentious and enjoys working independently.
