About the Department

The Forensic Psychiatry unit is a unique operation within Sahlgrenska University Hospital, located in Gunnilse, approximately 20 minutes from central Gothenburg by public transport.

The mission of Forensic Psychiatry is to provide individually tailored psychiatric care and rehabilitation to patients who have been sentenced to care.

The unit has open and closed care facilities with enhanced security classification and also cares for patients deprived of liberty under other legislation when they require acute psychiatric specialist care. Forensic Psychiatry has a societal protection responsibility, where the goal is for patients to manage a life in society without re-offending due to mental illness.

We invest in research, and our research unit CELAM (Center for Ethics, Law, and Mental Health) is located at Rågården, ensuring we are continuously part of the latest developments in forensic psychiatric care with the patient in focus.

This position is aimed at one of our rehabilitation units, where care periods are often long. This allows for rehabilitative interventions and a good understanding of the patient.

Forensic Psychiatry provides and develops specialist care with a focus on interdisciplinary rehabilitation. Our aim is to offer a stimulating and developing work environment, where you work closely with colleagues from various professions in providing care, rehabilitation, and treatment. Within forensic psychiatry at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, you will have the opportunity for continuous further education according to local goals and your own interests.

You will have access to the unit’s rehabilitation facilities, such as a gym and pool, for personal use. Through effective routines, dynamic security, participation, and competent staff, we together create a good and safe working environment.

Job Responsibilities

As a nurse with us, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team around the patient, consisting of doctors, social workers, nursing assistants, and treatment assistants. In the team, care follow-ups and care planning are conducted based on the patients' individual needs, where you as a nurse have an important role as the nursing responsible and team leader. As a nurse, you will also closely collaborate with the head physician of the unit. Together, you will work to improve the quality of care in the unit and actively work towards high patient safety.

You will be responsible for the patient's nursing care, medication management, sampling, and clinical assessments of the patient's psychiatric health status. Together with your colleagues, you will work to maintain a calm and safe environment in the unit.

This position includes day and evening shifts and weekend work based on a favorable schedule.

About You

We are looking for a licensed nurse. Previous experience in psychiatry and further education in psychiatry is an advantage, but not a requirement.

We believe you are a calm and secure person with a genuine interest in people in vulnerable situations. You also have the ability to listen, understand, set boundaries, and motivate and lead. You are responsible and work in a solution-focused manner. You are also expected to participate physically in self-defense training.
