The Malmö Academy of Music is seeking a university lecturer in community-oriented music and artistic citizenship

The position is 80% with placement in the Music Programs.

The employment is permanent starting from 2026-09-01 or by agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and course responsibility in subject areas focusing on community-oriented music and artistic citizenship within the music programs.
  • Supervision and examination of thesis projects,
  • Administrative work and course leadership,
  • Collaboration with national and international institutions and networks within the music field
  • Participation in admission tests, jury work, and similar tasks,
  • Planning and implementation of projects and guest lectures in the subject area,
  • Active work with the artistic and pedagogical development of the music programs.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position of university lecturer in community-oriented music and artistic citizenship, you must have:

  • A master's degree from a music program or other higher education in music,
  • Extensive and ongoing activity as a musician at a high artistic level with a deep grounding in Western art music,
  • Well-documented experience of teaching in higher music education programs,
  • Demonstrated pedagogical skills,
  • Good knowledge of Western art music as a musical performer,
  • Experience of administrative tasks relevant to the position,
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written,
  • Documented experience in project management, concert production within Western art music, and international projects.

A higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks is also required for the position, or that you have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the appointed person may undergo the training during the first two years. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate documented pedagogical skills from teaching in the subject within higher music education.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Experience in quality work within higher music education
  • Experience in intercultural and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Assessment Criteria

  • Good level as an artistic performer, documented and preferably rated, with broad genre knowledge of and repertoire within Western art music,
  • Good pedagogical ability, which means the ability to conduct, develop, and lead teaching and other pedagogical activities at various levels and with varying teaching methods,
  • Good communication skills with clear engagement and interest in the subject areas of the position and the ability to engage and inspire students in their own learning.

A broad network within artistic activities, preferably within international higher music education, is also advantageous.

Consideration will be given to good collaboration skills and how your experience and competence are assessed to complement and strengthen the subject area within the department and contribute to its future development.

Interviews and teaching tests are planned for weeks 10 and 11.

The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts in Malmö is one of eight faculties within Lund University and consists of the Academy of Fine Arts, the Academy of Music, and the Academy of Theatre, as well as the Inter Arts Center. The Faculty offers bachelor's, master's, and master's programs in fine arts, music, and theatre, as well as a number of courses of various scopes. It also conducts doctoral education and research with an artistic focus and in music education.

At the Academy of Music, musicians, church musicians, composers/arrangers, and music teachers are trained. In addition, doctoral education in music education and artistic research in music, as well as standalone courses, are offered. The Academy of Music collaborates with the surrounding music and cultural community.
