Economist with Investigative Skills Wanted at MUCF

The Swedish Agency for Youth and Civil Society (MUCF) is a government agency that develops knowledge about the living conditions of young people and the conditions of civil society. Our vision is an open and inclusive Sweden with good conditions for young people and civil society.

MUCF has been tasked by the government to work towards achieving the goals of youth policy and civil society policy. We do this by developing, collecting, and disseminating knowledge as well as contributing to the coordination of state efforts. We collaborate with authorities, municipalities, regions, and organizations in civil society and distribute state grants.

As of January 1, 2026, the agency's mission has expanded as we have taken over the responsibilities previously held by the Swedish Agency for Support to Faith Communities (SST) and the responsibility for state tasks within minority policy. This means that MUCF is an even more important actor in the work of strengthening democracy, promoting participation, and contributing to an inclusive society.

MUCF has offices in Växjö and from February 2026 also in Stockholm.

Description

We are now looking for an economist with investigative skills who wants to contribute to MUCF's work with financial monitoring and control within grant management.

You will be employed as a case officer with the functional title of economist at the Department of State Grants, placed in the grant support unit. In the role of economist, you will play an important role in ensuring that state funds are used correctly and that grant management is conducted in a legally secure and professional manner.

Your working hours will also be partially allocated to the Department of International Cooperation, where MUCF manages grants within, among other things, Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps.

This is a position for you who want to combine qualified financial work with a socially important mission and contribute to strengthening the agency's work with monitoring and control.

MUCF believes in a continued flexible working method with the possibility of partially working remotely based on the needs of the operations. Office presence is determined in consultation with the responsible manager based on your personal circumstances and the needs of the operations.

Responsibilities

In the role of economist, you will work closely with grant administrators and other colleagues providing support and analysis related to financial reporting and auditing in various parts of the grant process. You will conduct financial controls before, during, and after grant disbursements and review and analyze financial information and accounting documentation from grant recipients.

The work has a clear preventive focus and means that you contribute to developing methods that minimize the risk of incorrect payments and irregularities in grant giving. You will also participate in the department's follow-up group focusing on control, investigation, and follow-up.

The position also includes developing training materials and conducting internal training related to financial control and auditing. The tasks also include financial monitoring within international grants, such as Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps.

The work may involve travel within Sweden.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • an academic degree in economics from a university or college and meets one of the following: - specialization in accounting, or extensive experience in accounting or as a controller, or
  • experience working as an economics teacher at the upper secondary or post-secondary level

at least five years of current and relevant work experience

very good ability to express yourself in both Swedish and English, both orally and in writing

good knowledge of the Office suite

It is an advantage if you are:

  • a certified or authorized auditor
  • have experience working in public sector
  • have experience in board work within civil society issues

To thrive and succeed in the role, you need to collaborate well with others while also taking independent responsibility for your tasks. You work closely with your workgroup and actively contribute to joint discussions and assessments.

You are attentive and communicative and have a good pedagogical ability. This means you can explain complex issues clearly and accessibly, both in daily work and during presentations or training sessions. You feel comfortable speaking in front of larger groups in various contexts.

The role requires you to be flexible and able to shift focus when the needs of the operations change. You also have the ability to manage multiple parallel work processes and work structured even during periods of high tempo.

The work places high demands on accuracy and initiative. You are confident in your professional role, trust your own abilities, and have an ambitious and driven approach to your work.

Great importance will be placed on personal suitability and your ability to perform tasks in a qualified and professional manner.
