The Östergötland Museum is a vibrant meeting place that, in addition to managing and showcasing art and cultural history, invites visitors to guided tours, lectures, workshops, restaurant visits, a museum shop, and conferences. In addition to the public activities, business operations are conducted in archaeology, conservation, and building preservation. The Östergötland Museum also includes Löfstad Castle outside Norrköping, the Sancta Birgitta Cloister Museum in Vadstena, and several museum farms around Östergötland.

In 2026, the railway initiative Ostlänken, between Järna in Stockholm and Linköping in Östergötland, will enter a more intensive investigation phase. Ostlänken will constitute the largest archaeological project in Swedish history. The 160-kilometer-long stretch is estimated to contain around 650 ancient remains and significant areas for settlements and trade during the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages. The Östergötland Museum is now seeking archaeologists for the upcoming field season.

About the position

We are looking for several archaeologists for the 2026 field season. The tasks mainly consist of participating in archaeological investigations, which involve excavation and documentation. All time periods may be relevant.

About you

We are looking for someone who has at least a bachelor's degree in Nordic archaeology. Experience from field archaeological work within contract work is an advantage.

As a person, you have a positive attitude, are structured, meticulous, and have the ability to create good collaborations with both colleagues and external parties.

You need to have a driver's license and a good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both verbally and in writing.

The positions are filled as needed and are temporary positions with start dates in April or later, but no later than November. The duration of employment may vary.
