Job Responsibilities

We are looking for someone with both courage and desire to help develop a service unit for the Preschool Administration.

As a unit manager, you will have operational responsibility for personnel, finances, operations, results, and working environment within your unit. You will also initiate and drive development issues in close collaboration with other professionals, external contacts, and managers. You will lead your own unit where you and your employees work to drive the operations forward. Your mission is to contribute to creating a purposeful organization. By leading, motivating, supporting, and engaging your employees, you contribute to creativity and collaboration among your team.

Internal service is organized under the preschool department. The operations are managed by a department manager and consist of 27 unit managers and 4 business developers for the areas of meals and cleaning. The units are organized under the Preschool Administration's educational areas and work closely with the area principals.

Your mission is to ensure good service for our youngest citizens. You will be responsible for 25-30 employees, and together you will contribute to a consistent and high level of service throughout the city to create conditions for our children to develop. To succeed in this mission, we believe you have a coaching approach towards your employees to create conditions for them to succeed in their tasks. This includes implementing decisions made and making them understandable for your employees. You need to be a clear support for your team, where we believe that a coaching approach is the key to success.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a university degree of at least 180 credits in areas such as nutrition and leadership, public administration, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer. You have previous leadership experience with personnel responsibility. It is an advantage if you have knowledge of leadership through studies, such as having participated in the program for tomorrow's leaders. Experience in meals and/or cleaning is also an advantage.

Important qualities for a unit manager include the ability to lead based on the organization's values and the city's approach, developing a culture that builds and creates trust, transparency, and a good working environment. Through culture and structure, create systematic conditions for good communication and dialogue within the organization, including union representatives, as well as with other stakeholders and the surrounding community.

The following competencies are included in Gothenburg's city leadership criteria: influencing others, holistic view, goal- and result-oriented, analytical, and responsive. These criteria will therefore be of particular importance in the selection process and in interview situations.

  • You are a clear and good communicator who gets heard for your thoughts and ideas and has a good ability to consider others' perspectives. You can bring enthusiasm and energy through persuasive arguments that encourage good performance, team spirit, and increased motivation.
  • You can place your own operations in a larger context. You show interest in and collaborate on overarching issues to create added value. You take into account different sources of information and perspectives and can adapt others' ideas to your own operations.
  • You are motivated by clearly defined goals and have the ability to translate these into concrete actions. With a focus on the goal, you can reprioritize work when conditions or needs change. You follow up and report results and goal fulfillment.
  • You can effectively identify and analyze the core of a problem and propose possible solutions. You have the ability to see connections and can draw logical conclusions from limited and/or complex information.
  • You listen to others to understand their needs. You actively seek others' opinions and perspectives and are receptive to them by showing respect, consideration, and care. You work for cohesion in the team and see failures as learning opportunities, creating space for dialogue.
