Head of the Management Staff
Do you have management experience and a good understanding of the leadership and governance of an authority? Then this could be the position for you. About the position
As the head of the management staff, you are responsible for the leadership and governance of the management staff's operations, and you are accountable for achieving good results and providing effective leadership. The head of the staff is also part of the management group of the Swedish Customs, and an important task is to work together with others in the management group to handle overarching operational issues. Your main responsibilities include:
- Accountability for the goals and results of the management staff and strategic responsibility for the leadership and governance of the operations, as well as overall budget and personnel responsibility.
- Collaborate closely with the management and provide support in governance issues.
- Develop the operations and lead change initiatives.
- Adapt the operations when new needs arise and prioritize what is most important to do in the short and long term.
- Have good awareness of the external environment and understand how it affects the operations of the Swedish Customs and act accordingly.
- Contact with the Ministry of Finance on various issues.
- Represent the authority in external contexts nationally and internationally.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience in a managerial position as a head of staff or equivalent and experience in leading and developing an organization with proven results.
- Experience in a managerial position within an authority and therefore a good understanding of how an authority operates in terms of leadership, governance, organization, and follow-up.
- A university degree in political science, economics, or law, or other education or experience that we assess as relevant.
- Leadership training.
- Swedish citizenship.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Experience in the operational area of the Swedish Customs.
- Experience in operational governance and operational analysis.
- Experience in management group work.
- Experience in international cooperation.

You are used to handling multiple issues simultaneously. You have a strong ability to develop both people and operations through a coaching and communicative leadership style, and you understand the importance of creating engagement and accountability among your employees. As a person, you have the courage to make decisions, are action-oriented, and drive towards set goals. You have a strategic perspective and a good overall view, and you can challenge yourself and others to stimulate innovation and change. You should be communicative, easy to collaborate with, and able to create connections with others both within and outside the Swedish Customs.

The employment is a permanent position, and individual salary setting applies. Within the Swedish Customs, fixed-term management appointments of 5 years are applied with the possibility of extension.
Start date: By agreement.

The position is classified in a security class, which means that a security review with a register check according to the Security Protection Act will be conducted before employment, and Swedish citizenship is required.
