Unit Manager at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency
We are looking for a Unit Manager who, together with engaged employees, wants to drive and develop the unit's work forward. You will be a key person in implementing measures to achieve Sweden's goals for biodiversity.
The Department of Nature and Wildlife implements the policy for the management of biodiversity and ecosystems, including the work as the national hunting and wildlife authority. We develop knowledge bases, information, guidance, and steering instruments to achieve Swedish and international goals and follow up on the effects. The department allocates and follows up on state funds for the protection and management of valuable nature and wildlife management. We represent the state as a property owner in protected areas. Our operations are based on collaboration with authorities, research, industry, landowners, civil society, and international actors.
The Nature Information Unit coordinates and supports the development of digital operational processes, environmental information supply, and collaboration within the nature area, both internally and externally. This involves extensive national collaboration and to some extent EU work. The unit develops and manages national geodata and data bases, supports geodata work within the authority, and is responsible for monitoring and indicators for biodiversity, land, and nature.
The department and unit prioritize the development of the nature area's digital operational architecture and knowledge supply to meet the requirements of new legislation, not least the regulation on the restoration of nature.
Your Responsibilities
As a unit manager, you will work on behalf of the department head to lead, develop, and follow up on the work of the unit. You will be part of the department's management team and have overall responsibility for processes, results, staffing, the unit's budget, as well as agreements with partners and contractors.
The unit manager has personnel and work environment responsibility for the unit's employees and creates clarity and direction in the work. In this role, you will leverage employee engagement and ensure the right conditions for the work. You contribute to a good work climate, participation, and collaboration internally and externally, as well as quality assure the unit's deliveries and represent the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency externally.
Your Competence
Requirements:
- Academic degree in a relevant field, such as natural sciences, environmental sciences, engineering, geography, urban planning, information/system sciences, or data/IT, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Experience in management or another leadership role, with personnel and/or operational responsibility, or experiences assessed to correspond to these experiences, such as leading larger projects.
- Experience in leading development work in a knowledge- and/or expertise-intensive operation.
- Good experience of collaboration, both internally and with external actors.
- Very good understanding of public operations and their governance, preferably within a government agency.
- Experience in developing processes for how information, data, and/or digital processes are used in operational development within relevant operations for the department.
- Good experience of work within the nature, environment, or biodiversity area.
- Very good ability to communicate in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing.
Meritorious:
- Education focused on digitalization, information management, geodata, or data analysis.
- Experience of work within the geodata area, remote sensing, national data sets, or information management.
- Experience in being responsible for or developing indicators, follow-up, or environmental monitoring.
- Experience in being a client towards IT and system suppliers.

About the Employment
The position is a permanent full-time employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. The position is located in Stockholm. Start date as soon as possible by agreement. We apply individual salary setting. The position involves travel, primarily within Sweden but also internationally.
