Workplace Description

The research group for Genetics and Diabetes focuses on investigating genetics and various precision medicine approaches to learn more about diabetes and related conditions.

The group is led by Associate Professor Emma Ahlqvist and consists of both research and technical staff. The group is located at CRC in Malmö. We are now seeking a project assistant for a fixed-term employment of 100% for 6 months.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

The main tasks are to focus on your projects. You will conduct -omics research to understand diabetes and early life factors associated with diabetes risk. You will primarily work with the analysis of large-scale data together with clinical data under the supervision of Rashmi Prasad.

  • Analysis of transcriptomic data to identify genes important for type 2 diabetes
  • Analysis of early life factors and parent-specific effects
  • Analysis of genetic variation and methylation in relation to gene expression.
  • Report and manuscript writing.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Master's degree in bioinformatics, biology, or similar.
  • Experience handling large gene expression datasets and statistical analyses in R.
  • Experience in original analysis and analysis of early life factors and parent-specific effects.
  • Good knowledge of the Bash command line for Unix-like operating systems.
  • Good knowledge of biology, genetics, and transcriptomics.
  • Good English skills. Very good ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-motivated, driven, and persistent.
  • Good at working in teams, willing to help others, and has good communication and collaboration skills.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen ongoing research within the research groups and contribute to their future development.
