The Department of Odontology is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy and conducts education and research in the field of dentistry. Each year, 93 dentists, 32 dental hygienists, 20 dental technicians, 20 KUT dentists, and a number of doctoral students graduate.

The operations are conducted at 13 departments and in close collaboration with other institutions at the Sahlgrenska Academy and Public Dental Service in Västra Götaland.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is responsible for education in dental radiology for dentists, dental hygienists, and supplementary education for dentists with degrees from outside the EU/EEA (KUT). Furthermore, the department conducts research and doctoral education. Currently, the department has three university lecturers (two full-time and one part-time), doctoral students, and shared administrative staff. Additionally, the department participates in supervising doctoral students in other subject areas within the department.

Subject Description

Dental radiology is a central subject within dentistry. It deals with X-ray radiation and its effects on biological tissue, radiological techniques, and diagnostics. A licensed dentist has, in addition to their diagnostic competence, managerial responsibility for all dental X-ray activities at a clinic/practice, and the education in radiology within the dental program is therefore extensive. Dental hygienists also have the competence and authority to decide on and perform certain types of X-ray examinations and diagnostics through their education, which is why the educational effort is also extensive within this profession. Research in the subject area addresses both radiological diagnostics and validation of new techniques and methods.

Job Responsibilities

The main task for the university lecturer being sought is teaching in the subject area of dental radiology in the dental and dental hygiene programs, as well as in supplementary education for dentists with degrees from outside the EU/EEA (KUT).

The lecturer is expected to actively participate in planning teaching in all relevant programs/courses in a pedagogical and structured manner, as well as to teach and evaluate skills in courses within the subject area at the undergraduate level.

There is a particular need for additional teaching resources regarding the courses in dental radiology offered within the dental hygiene program, but also to assist in courses within the dental program and in supplementary education for dentists with degrees from outside the EU/EEA (KUT) in collaboration with the department's university lecturers.

Course responsibility at the undergraduate level may be included in the job responsibilities. Furthermore, assisting the department's lecturers in connection with thesis work is important, which is why scientific competence is also essential.

Qualifications

Qualifications for employment as a teacher are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations. Eligible for employment as a university lecturer is one who has demonstrated pedagogical skills, has completed higher education at least at the advanced level, or has equivalent competence or other skills of significance considering the subject content of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment.

Additional qualification requirements for the current position are: Swedish license as a dentist. Since the subject area constitutes a dental specialty, specialist competence in dental radiology is required.

Applicants must be proficient in Swedish and English in both spoken and written forms.

Assessment Criteria

In the appointment process, pedagogical competence will be given weight, with experience in teaching relevant to the job responsibilities. Clinical, administrative, and organizational skills will also be weighted, as well as the ability to collaborate. Particular importance is placed on subject competence, pedagogical experience, and skills, as the subject area has a significant teaching assignment.

Experience in research is meritorious, as we would like to see university lecturers contribute to the academic environment both in teaching and research within the subject area. Research experience focused on dental radiology or the application of radiological methods is also meritorious.

Applicants lacking higher education pedagogical training are expected to undergo such training, or acquire equivalent knowledge, within one year from the date of employment.

The employment is a temporary position for 1 year with a workload of 75%, located at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Department of Odontology at the Sahlgrenska Academy.
