Do you want to be where it happens?

The position offers great opportunities but requires you to be brave, to see challenges as something positive, and to want to contribute to the continued development of social services for children and youth in Västerås.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for ensuring that children and youth, aged 0-18, have their needs assessed. You will also make decisions regarding interventions and follow up to ensure they receive good care and their rights are upheld. We are committed to utilizing your knowledge and skills based on our broad mandate. This creates opportunities for specific focus in your position, both regarding target groups and where in the processing you want to be involved. To truly succeed in our mission, you need to collaborate with key stakeholders, both internal and external.

We work with a cohesive approach so that families, as much as possible, have contact with the same social worker. We develop our work based on societal developments, with a particular focus on three target groups: children and youth at risk of criminality, children and youth with disabilities and psychiatric issues, and children and youth placed in emergency and foster homes. These target groups require special collaboration with both internal and external parties.

With us, you will receive close leadership with several team leaders in each unit who support you in your daily work. In addition to the team leaders, there are also managers, specialists, and other support functions. There is always someone to turn to when needed. When you join us, you will receive a solid introduction tailored to your needs. Here, you can rely on clear guidelines but also have the opportunity to influence. All to ensure that you can go home at the end of the day feeling that you have truly contributed to our important mission.

Your qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a qualified social worker or has relevant education and has been validated previously. We welcome both newcomers to the profession and those with prior experience. The Social Services Act and LVU are the foundations of your work, and your knowledge in these areas is important. Documentation is an obvious part of everyday life, so you need to have good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written. You are flexible and see opportunities in changes. We also believe that you are unpretentious and have the ability to be clear and adapt your communication. It is important to us that you are interested in social work and come to work because you want and dare to make a difference for vulnerable people in society. If you have experience and knowledge of the target group, it is particularly meritorious. Since travel is included in the position, you need to have a valid driver's license.

We offer

With us, you will have a trust-based workplace with strong collegial support. We are proud to make a difference for children and youth every day with a high degree of legal security. The children and youth department consists of three equally sized units that all work towards the same goal. Each unit has a unit manager, four team leaders, one to two senior caseworkers, and about twenty social workers and assistant social workers. We work unit-wise, but when needed, we collaborate across unit boundaries. With us, there is an opportunity to work from home two days a week. We are located in the Social Services house right by the station area where all the authority-exercising units in the individual and family administration are located. Proximity to each other facilitates collaboration so that our clients can receive the best possible help.

We believe in trust and freedom under responsibility. This means that you plan your workday yourself, have flexible hours, and the opportunity to work remotely part of the time.

Here, you become part of something bigger! With warmth and respect, we show decisiveness in both big and small matters. We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues around the city, you will have Sweden's most important job.
