Cybersecurity Expert at FOI
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civilian defense. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

About the Position
As a cybersecurity expert with us, you will build knowledge and develop methods and techniques used to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in software. The application of knowledge occurs through work on concrete cybersecurity issues for our clients. This may include analyses and tests in existing and new systems to find vulnerabilities, identify the consequences of discovered vulnerabilities, and propose security-enhancing measures. You will also have the opportunity to work with the cyber facility Crate regarding both the development and execution of experiments, exercises, and evaluations.
About the Unit
You will be part of the cybersecurity unit, which belongs to Cyber Defense and Command Technology.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- experience in software development with C and C++, in Windows, Linux, and embedded systems
- understanding of the relationship between source code (high-level and assembly)
- compilation and linking
- object code
- dynamic and static libraries
- file structures (ELF/PE)
- an interest in IT security, expressed through hobby projects, completed vulnerability analyses, participation in CTFs, etc.
- a degree in computer engineering, or equivalent education or skills that FOI assesses as equivalent.
Personal qualities we highly value for this position are a strong ability to analyze and solve complex problems, to take initiative, and to collaborate with others.
Meritorious
Knowledge and practical experience in the following are meritorious but not required:
- development of exploits/shellcode
- low-level Windows and Linux, internals/kernel
- penetration testing
- code reviews from a security perspective
- software reverse engineering
- development of antivirus/endpoint security software
- development and analysis of network protocols, TCP/UDP/IP, and up to application level.

The position is a permanent employment that may begin with a six-month probationary period.
