Technical Architect at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The role is placed in the workplace services section. The section consists of 3 groups that together are responsible for the operation of all IT workplace services used directly in the core operations, by both the staff and inmates of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. Together we manage installations, lifecycle management, certification, and testing of both hardware and software. Together we build a robust and sustainable IT environment for a rapidly growing operation.

As a technical architect, you will work closely with technicians and solution architects to translate the operational needs into well-thought-out, sustainable, and practical solution proposals. You will produce technical design, architectural documentation, and materials for development and operational work. The role combines cross-functional, strategic, and operational work. This means that you will participate in projects and assignments, follow up on implementations, and ensure that the solutions meet the required quality. You will support the groups in complex issues, collaborate with external suppliers, and contribute to the development and stability of our service packages.

You will drive the technical development within your area by proposing and preparing standards, initiating and leading architectural changes, and monitoring relevant technologies. The role has the mandate to approve or stop design proposals that do not align with the approved architecture. You will lay the foundation for stable operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is self-driven in their work style and takes responsibility for structuring their approach and advancing processes. You have a habit of working until the set goal is reached despite setbacks. Externally, you are socially active in professional contexts and have an easy time broadening your network. You also have a good understanding of how people absorb knowledge. You communicate clearly and ensure that your messages and expectations reach their destination.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Completed upper secondary school education in the form of a diploma or secondary school certificate
  • Experience working with IT workplace services in the role of technician or architect
  • Good knowledge of producing technical documentation
  • Good understanding of IT security principles (e.g., PKI, firewalls)
  • Good understanding of DevOps principles
  • Very good ability to express oneself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English

It is a merit if you have:

  • Higher education or vocational training preferably in computer science, information technology, or equivalent
  • Certifications in one or more relevant areas
  • Experience from similar roles (e.g., solution architect, system architect)
  • Experience designing or leading the development of complex digital environments and systems
  • Experience in the operation or administration of network and server infrastructure
  • Experience in Linux-based system administration
  • Experience in automation and scripting
  • Experience in producing architectural documentation
  • Experience with the systems and working methods of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
  • Knowledge of containerization (e.g., Docker)
  • Knowledge of configuration management
  • Knowledge of Windows management (AD, GPO, client management)
  • Knowledge of network and communication technology
  • Knowledge of IGEL OS or other thin client solutions
  • Knowledge of telephony, Rakel, or digital meeting services
