In a world facing significant challenges, there is also hope - and a growing willingness to create a better future for upcoming generations. This drive is shared by us at RISE. Are you curious and communicative? Do you want to contribute to concrete societal benefits? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

About us At RISE – Research Institutes of Sweden – we believe in the power of knowledge and collaboration. Within the division of Building and Construction, we create research-based solutions together with industry and the public sector that drive development towards resilient, sustainable, and viable societies.

About the role The Local Energy Systems unit belongs to the System Transition department at RISE. We work with modeling and control of energy systems that are becoming increasingly complex, with components such as solar panels, batteries, heat pumps, and charging infrastructure. To meet these challenges, we are looking for someone with technical expertise in modern methods for machine learning, AI, and optimization.

In this role, you will develop and manage models for complex energy systems, analyze large datasets, and bring together various competencies to create solutions that work in reality. You will participate in research projects, contribute to project development and application processes, and engage in client meetings and external contexts to understand needs and translate them into models. In the long run, we see you taking a more leading role in projects and applications.

Examples of tasks:

  • Model dynamic relationships between production, storage, and consumption.

  • Develop control strategies that optimize cost, efficiency, and sustainability.

  • Conduct geographical analyses of charging infrastructure and demand development.

  • Work with AI and machine learning for prediction, generative models, and optimization.

With us, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with both research and direct assignments closely with industry and societal actors.

  • Simulate energy needs over time based on behavioral data and technical parameters.

  • Generate synthetic user profiles for scenario testing and robustness analysis.

  • Optimize energy flows in households and microgrids where multiple technologies interact.

  • Grow in the role – from participating in projects to driving application processes and leading projects.

Who are you? We believe you are at the beginning of your career, and the requirements for the role are that you hold an MSc degree with a focus on complex systems. You have expertise in machine learning, AI, and optimization methods, and an understanding of energy systems at various levels.

You have the ability to handle complex physical systems and large datasets, as well as to develop algorithms that solve optimization problems with multiple objectives (cost, efficiency, CO₂).

As a person, you are curious and have a strong drive to develop within your technical area. It is especially important that you possess good communication skills as we work in cross-functional/interdisciplinary teams.

We also appreciate that you have a business-oriented perspective, meaning you can see opportunities, understand needs, and want to contribute to developing new ideas over time. Furthermore, you have good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

Are we right for each other? At RISE, there are many engaged and enthusiastic colleagues and many exciting challenges to tackle. You will work in a dynamic environment that offers you development opportunities both professionally and personally.

At RISE, we want you to succeed and feel good, as this contributes together with your colleagues to a sustainable future and to securing a competitive edge for Swedish industry and research in the global competition.
