to apply for the job

The city of Västerås has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will become an important part of our selection work.

Do you want to be part of an engaged team that makes a difference in people's lives? Then this is the opportunity for you! As a social worker, you contribute to welfare by strengthening people's opportunities for independence and security. Welcome with your application!

Your Responsibilities

Within financial assistance, we work to promote social change through a solution-focused approach. Our goal is to work together with our clients to find and develop solutions that strengthen their own resources and enable self-sufficiency. As a social worker, you are responsible for investigating, assessing, and making decisions about financial assistance, where personal meetings are central to our work. By listening and showing interest in each individual, we ensure a legally secure exercise of authority.

In addition to financial assistance, we also handle applications for estate notifications/provisional estate management and investigate incorrect payments. Once you feel secure in your role, you will also participate in the introduction of new colleagues and act as a mentor for social work students during their practical studies.

Your Qualifications

You have an academic education in a relevant field, such as social work or behavioral science. You have an interest in social work and the courage to make a difference for vulnerable people in society. To be able to hold and understand different types of conversations and to document in a legally secure manner, you need to have good knowledge of Swedish. If you have previous experience working in social services or other authority exercises, we see it as a great plus. It is also an advantage if you have worked in the Lifecare system or have knowledge of social law and conversation methodology. As a person, you are secure, stable, and have a natural ability to meet people in their unique life situations. You thrive in collaboration with others and are both attentive and clear in your communication. In social work, you often face situations that cannot be solved in a routine manner, so it is important that you are flexible and can adapt to changing circumstances. In these situations, it is required that you sometimes reconsider both your perspective and your working methods to find solutions to complex problems, a process that requires both courage and patience.

We Offer

The Individual and Family Administration (IFF) is responsible for the exercise of authority in the social area. We meet people in all stages of life. With commitment and competence, we provide good service and contribute to making Västerås an attractive city to live, work, and study in. In the Social Services house right by the station area, all authority-exercising units in the Individual and Family Administration are located. Here you are just a few steps away from colleagues with other competencies who can support you in your work. It is important for us that you, as a newcomer, receive the support you need; therefore, we offer a good introduction during your first time with us.

We also offer training in solution-focused working methods and the opportunity for flexible working hours to support your professional development and contribute to your job satisfaction.

Here you become part of something bigger! With warmth and respect, we show decisiveness in both big and small matters. We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues around the city, you will have Sweden's most important job.
