Social Workers for the Children and Youth Placement Unit
When a child is placed outside their home, their entire situation changes, and that’s when secure social workers are needed to hold the intervention together. We are now looking for two social workers for the Children and Youth Placement Unit: one permanent position and a one-year temporary position starting in the spring of 2026, with a possible extension.
Here, you work closely with children and youth in social care and collaborate with foster homes, service providers, and networks to create stability and good conditions for development. It is a responsible, varied, and meaningful assignment at every step.
YOUR ROLE
In this role, you are responsible for following up, investigating, and implementing decisions for children and youth placed in foster homes, supported housing, HVB homes, or SiS homes. You maintain the overall picture around the child or youth and work both with what is happening here and now and what requires more long-term planning. You work with collegial support in the cases and have close collaboration with foster care caseworkers and other key actors to ensure that the child's needs are met and that the placement works as safely and sustainably as possible.
In your work, you may sometimes find yourself in situations where emotions run high, and meetings with children, youth, or networks are characterized by frustration or anxiety. There may also be situations where strong emotions lead to reactions that are perceived as challenging. In those moments, you work methodically to create calm and safety in the process and follow the organization's routines for threats and violence, with support from both colleagues and management when needed.
Since placements can be both within and outside the municipality, you will travel for work, sometimes by car but also by train and plane. In many situations, you meet children, youth, and their networks in both everyday and more challenging moments, and you contribute with a calm and professional approach. It is a job where you really get to use all your skills – and where your commitment makes a concrete difference for children and youth.
YOUR COMPETENCE AND EXPERIENCE
You who are applying have a degree in social work and good knowledge of the legislation governing the area, including SoL and LVU. It is an advantage if you have previously worked with investigations or have experience meeting people in crisis. Experience in conversation methodology, such as MI, working from Signs of Safety, and knowledge of child development and methods like BBIC are particularly meritorious.
As a person, you work in a structured and methodical way and can keep track of several cases simultaneously. You have a secure and stable foundation that allows you to handle pressured and sometimes challenging situations calmly and thoughtfully, without losing focus or professionalism. In collaboration with colleagues and other actors, you contribute with an unpretentious and solution-focused attitude, and you have the ability to analyze complex situations and see connections that lead to well-founded assessments.
The role requires you to express yourself well in Swedish in both speech and writing and to adapt your communication based on who you are meeting and their circumstances. You are used to working in digital environments and have a good ability to manage several digital systems simultaneously. You need to be able to travel for work and be comfortable with different types of travel methods. A driver's license (B) is required.
We also welcome applications from those who are about to complete their social work studies or are newly graduated social workers.
YOUR NEW WORKPLACE
At the Social Services, we work to improve people's living situations. We provide support, protection, and guidance – always with respect for individual responsibility and integrity. Here, you will meet colleagues who, with courage, care, and collaboration, make a real difference for both children, youth, and adults in Skellefteå.
You will join a team where we value each other's experiences and where support and supervision are a natural part of everyday life. Your workplace is located in the activity-based part of the City Hall in Skellefteå. Here, we offer external supervision, mentoring support, professional development, and also some opportunities to work from home when the work allows it.
GOOD TO KNOW
We recruit based on competence and focus on your experience, knowledge, and potential. Instead of a personal letter, you will answer some selection questions and attach an updated CV. Psychological tests are used as part of the recruitment process.
