Night Support Assistants for Social Psychiatry

We are now looking for support assistants for night work at our group home within Social Psychiatry. Here you will meet individuals in need of support related to mental health issues and intellectual disabilities, with a focus on safety, relationships, and a low-arousal approach. You will be part of an environment where collaboration, respect, and presence are central – and where your calmness and competence create security when it is needed the most.

YOUR ROLE

As a night support assistant, you will work to create safety, stability, and continuity for the residents during the quieter hours of the day. Your mission is to meet users with a professional, low-arousal, and respectful approach.

The operation has a clear psychiatric focus, and you will meet individuals who may experience anxiety and need support to manage worry, feelings, and situations that arise during the night. You contribute to structure, predictability, and safety, and provide calm support when needed.

You will work nights alongside a colleague and are never alone in your work. You collaborate closely and can resolve situations together if necessary, even if you are with different users for large parts of the night.

YOUR COMPETENCE AND EXPERIENCE

You have education relevant to the assignment. This could be care and nursing education at the high school level or a child and youth program with a focus on educational or social work, or other education deemed equivalent. You also have the physical ability to perform the tasks included in the role.

You have experience working with people where the tasks have involved providing service and support, adapting responses based on the individual and situation, and identifying needs and finding solutions. You are used to working professionally, are attentive, and confident in your professional role.

You have experience working with individuals with mental and/or intellectual disabilities, or with mental health issues. Experience in psychiatric work is a requirement.

It is an advantage if you have worked with pedagogical methods and clarifying approaches, for example by adapting communication, using visual support, or structuring the environment based on the individual's needs. Experience with low-arousal approaches is also advantageous, as is experience working with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, outwardly aggressive behaviors, or situations that may involve threats and violence.

YOUR NEW WORKPLACE

The group home is located about 10 kilometers north of Skellefteå, on Grandengatan in Kåge, and is focused on elderly individuals within Social Psychiatry. Currently, two people live in the facility, but two more are moving in, which is why we are now expanding the staff group. There are a total of four residential places in the facility.

At Grandengatan, we provide users with practical support in daily life, such as serving prepared meals, preparing breakfast and snacks, planning and carrying out activities, cleaning and laundry tasks together with the users, and otherwise supporting them in their daily lives – both in small and more extensive ways. Some care tasks are involved. The residents can manage many daily tasks themselves, but sometimes need support for the day to function. Support is always adapted based on the individual's needs and circumstances.

The workgroup currently consists of ten employees who work days, evenings, weekends, and nights. After the recruitment, the workgroup will consist of twelve employees, of which the new positions are purely night positions. Collaboration, a common approach, and a safe work environment are central parts of the operation.

GOOD TO KNOW

Work hours are scheduled for nights, from 20:45 to 07:15. Work is always done together with a colleague – solo work does not occur.
