The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority is a preparedness authority with important tasks within crisis preparedness and civil defense. In the area of crisis preparedness, we are tasked with being proactive and providing expert competence within the national radiation protection preparedness. This includes, among other things, preparedness, regulation, and licensing.

The Development Unit for Preparedness is responsible for the development and direction of preparedness. We work proactively within crisis preparedness and civil defense. The unit consists of a unit manager and 15 employees. We are now looking for an investigator focused on preparedness and nuclear analysis for nuclear facilities, both concerning existing facilities and potentially new ones. Nuclear analysis refers to assessing the status of a nuclear facility during an event and estimating the size of a potential release (source term).

Critical societal tasks
You will be part of a team where you work proactively, in collaboration with nuclear facilities and relevant authorities, to enhance society's ability to handle a radiological emergency both in crisis and heightened preparedness.

• development of the nuclear analysis function in the crisis organization
• driving and participating in investigations
• environmental monitoring
• developing regulations.

Your work will include participating in national and international development work and initiating and conducting collaboration with authorities and other relevant organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and authorities in the Nordic countries with corresponding tasks as the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority.

We are looking for someone who has

• a master's degree in engineering or other education that the authority deems relevant for the position, alternatively several years of work experience within the nuclear industry
• good knowledge of reactor safety or safety in other nuclear activities focusing on, for example, work in crisis organizations within operations with high safety requirements, severe accidents, development of disturbance instructions, accident management strategies, or equivalent and/or other work with development and/or training within accident management
• good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.

It is advantageous if you have experience in:

• preparedness at nuclear facilities
• source term estimations
• the structure and design of safety functions
• facility-wide safety analyses or accident analyses using, for example, Riskspectrum, MAAP, MELCOR
• regulatory work or interpretation and implementation of regulatory requirements
• training and exercise activities
• project management or other types of work leadership.

As an investigator, you need to be analytical and able to work in a structured manner. As a person, you need to be self-driven, proactive, and take responsibility for your work. You should find it easy to work independently and also enjoy and be able to collaborate with others. We also want you to be quality-conscious and meticulous.

Employment conditions
The employment is a permanent position starting by agreement. The employment may begin with a six-month probationary period. Travel in the service occurs. The place of employment is Solna or Gothenburg.

Some of our tasks are classified, which means that a security review with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may be conducted before a decision on employment. For some of our classified tasks, Swedish citizenship is also required.

You may be part of the authority's crisis organization and may also be placed in a military position at the authority. The crisis organization performs radiation protection assessments and nuclear analyses and collaborates with other relevant actors to manage radiological emergencies, including situations of heightened preparedness.
