The Digitalization and IT Department, which is part of the City Management Administration in Mölndal Municipality, consists of a staff and two additional units; Technical Development and Management and IT Operations and Support. In total, we are about 47 employees whose task is to work both strategically and operationally to drive digitalization forward and ensure a well-functioning IT organization in the city.
We are now looking for an engaged GIS Engineer for the Technical Development and Management unit!
In this role, you will work with the operation and development of our municipality-wide geodata platform and the production of geodata and maps. We work closely with the Community Planning Administration and the Building and Environment Administration, which creates good conditions for collaboration and development.
RESPONSIBILITIES

As a GIS Engineer with us, you will be a key player in the city's GIS function, together with three engaged GIS Engineers, you will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and managing the city's geodata and ensuring that both employees and residents of Mölndal Municipality have access to the best possible GIS services.
We primarily work with MSSQL as a database manager and disseminate map information through Sokigo CSM via both intranet and internet. For integration, analysis, and automation, we use FME Form and FME Flow, while QGIS is used for map production and analysis. The GIS function also handles Sokigo FB (Property and Population), a central system for the GIS function's work with property and population data.
As a GIS Engineer, you will:
- Participate in various assignments and projects to develop geodata solutions for the city's administrations and companies.
- Administer, develop, and maintain the central geodata platform and our web-based mapping services.
- Be a contact person and support for users of the geodata platform within the city's operations.
- Conduct training, both general and targeted, in the GIS area.
- Plan, develop, follow up, and implement new geodata solutions for the city's needs.
- Be responsible for the delivery of geodata, both internally and externally.
- Develop and manage 3D work related to the digital community planning process.
- Participate in efforts to streamline processes and deliveries and contribute to the GIS function's operational planning.
Your tasks may vary depending on your competencies and how they can best be developed and utilized.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is cooperative, service-oriented, and a solution-oriented problem solver. You are communicative, proactive, and driven to contribute with ideas and improvements. You have a curious and innovative approach to GIS and geodata, and are used to organizing and planning your work.
In this role, you will be a creative and central support for the city's operations within the GIS area. You easily absorb new knowledge and apply it in practice. The ability to work independently and in a structured manner, as well as actively participate in projects, is important for success in this role.
Your profile:
- Have an education as a GIS Engineer or equivalent experience.
- Have good experience with technical tools within data/GIS and geodata, such as FME Form and Flow, QGIS, or similar.
- Are an experienced database administrator and have good knowledge of SQL.
- Have basic knowledge of XML and JSON.
- Have experience working with national geodata from various authorities.
- Have good technical competence.
Desirable competencies:
- Experience in data modeling, data analysis, statistics, visualization, and cartography.
- Experience in handling 3D data (LAS data, 3D models, 3D visualization).
- Experience in web development.
- Knowledge of API management, web services (e.g., WMS), and integrations.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience with CSM and FB.
- Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, and Python.
- Experience with the ESRI platform.
- Experience working in municipal operations.
We expect you to have a good command of Swedish and be able to express yourself clearly in both speech and writing.
