Sibbhult station is one of two fire stations in Östra Göinge Municipality's rescue service. The municipality collaborates with Kristianstad Municipality and is led by the rescue chief from there. The Sibbhult team responds to about 100 alarms per year. We are now looking for new part-time firefighters to join our team!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Firefighting is often associated with extinguishing fires, but the job involves much more. Traffic accidents, medical care, and decontamination are just a few examples of other types of alarms included in the work. You will also have many contacts with people, often in difficult situations.

We are looking for someone who can be on standby during the day, evening, or night. The important thing is that you must be able to reach the station within 5 minutes when you are on standby and an alarm occurs. Could it be that you have the opportunity to work from home during the week you are on standby? This could open up new possibilities.

The rescue service pays compensation for the time you are on standby. Additionally, you will receive compensation for the time spent on responses, training, and exercises. We train regularly to improve our skills. As a part-time firefighter in Östra Göinge, you are employed by the municipality.

QUALIFICATIONS

To work as a part-time firefighter in Östra Göinge Municipality, the following requirements apply:

• You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
• You need to be healthy and have good physical fitness.
• You must have good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written.
• You need to have a B driver's license.
• You must be able to reach the fire station within 5 minutes.
• You must not have claustrophobia; you must be able to work in tight spaces.
• You must not have acrophobia or be afraid of the dark.
• You must have permission from your regular employer.
• You must be able to swim.

Therefore, it is important that you have a desire to help people, an ability to collaborate, and that you are stress-resistant as the work varies greatly and is often performed in pressured situations.

If you meet the above requirements and are interested in working as a firefighter, you will be called for an interview. After that, you will undergo a treadmill test and a medical examination, and you will also be tested for acrophobia and claustrophobia. Once you are approved in all areas, you will receive a probationary employment and undergo basic training before you can go on standby.

Becoming a firefighter is one of the best decisions I have made. The job is exciting, varied, and developmental. You can never really imagine exactly what situations you will face, and it is both exciting and frightening. You learn an incredible amount, both about others and about yourself.

No, I don't think so. It requires that you have good physical fitness. Some alarms require a lot of work, such as a forest fire or a house fire. You give 110% in every effort. You could say that you step into a role where the only thought is to save lives or property. In that situation, you don't think that the work is hard.

What is the best part of being a firefighter?
The best part of being a firefighter is the feeling when you have made an effort to help others. The camaraderie at the station with your team and others is fantastic! It is teamwork, and we always support each other. The knowledge you gain is invaluable.

How often are you on standby?
As a base, we have standby every fourth week, and we also help each other during illness or if someone wants to swap a shift. We also work to be as flexible as possible for those who live or work in another location and can only be on standby part-time.
