Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Hiring Correctional Officers for the Transport Department

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding on, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transports.

The Transport Department (TA) is tasked with transporting and supervising detained individuals. These are clients of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service who are moved between detention centers and prisons, to court hearings, hospitals, and more. TA also transports detained individuals for the Police, the National Board of Institutional Care, the Migration Agency, and psychiatry, among others. JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Correctional Officer within the Transport Department (TA), you will be part of a team consisting of two to four people, each responsible for different roles in carrying out client transports.

The roles assigned in the workgroup are driver, transport officer, and transport leader. You will encounter a wide variety of clients of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences.

You will search, restrain with handcuffs, and supervise the client during transport.

TA's assignments are varied, which means that your working hours may change from day to day. Weekend work is included, and evening and night shifts may also be required.

The scheduled times are frame times, usually 07:00-17:00. Frame time means that the employer can change your start time based on assignments, and the end time is determined by when the assignment is completed.

It is the operations and its assignments that dictate our working hours, so there are no fixed start and end times for your workday.

Changes to the start time will be communicated before the previous shift ends. For example, a shift may be between 07:00-19:00 (12 hours) or 09:00-16:00 (7 hours).

We place great importance on the fact that there are no fixed times for each shift, and this is something to consider if you are still interested; you must be flexible.

QUALIFICATIONS

The role places high demands on personal suitability. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change. You need to have a good physical condition to handle a sedentary job and to be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Requirements:
    • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
