About the Role

Your main task will be to develop VTI's research in automation, electrification, and vehicle dynamics, using AI methodologies, driving simulation tools, and tire measurement facilities. The focus is on road vehicles but may also address all modes of transport. You will work in a creative organization with short decision-making paths, where you contribute with technical depth in one or more areas but also have the willingness, curiosity, and ability to work broadly and applied to make the whole work. You will be an important part of the team and have close collaboration with colleagues both in Linköping and at VTI's other offices. Business trips occur, both between offices and internationally within the framework of various research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on vehicle engineering issues, related to the introduction of new types of vehicles, vehicle combinations, and new technologies, both nationally and internationally.
  • Actively contribute to and take responsibility in application work for defining new research projects.
  • Actively contribute to and take responsibility for project administration and project management to ensure that research projects meet the requirements for time, cost, and scientific quality.
  • Contribute to VTI's interdisciplinary environment, maintain contact with our partners, and be active in creating new contacts and participating in networks.

About You

You have a background as a civil engineer with a focus on vehicle technology and are a PhD in vehicle dynamics and evaluation of data related to vehicle fleets. It is advantageous if you also have education or experience in heavy vehicle combinations, driving simulation, and data processing applied to vehicle data. As a researcher, you have started establishing your national and international network within your research area, and it is advantageous if you have experience in defining research projects and applying for research funds. Additional examples of experiences that are advantageous:

  • Driving simulation with CARLA.
  • Instrumentation of vehicles for vehicle dynamics data logging.
  • Experience and interest in how AI methods can be used for evaluation and analysis of vehicles and vehicle data.

You will have many contacts with internal and external clients, test subjects, partners, and researchers. Therefore, we place great importance on your ability to collaborate, communicate, take initiative, and work independently. You express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities.

About VTI

VTI is a government agency that conducts applied research and qualified investigations in the transport sector. We have around 250 employees and are located in Linköping, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lund, and Skellefteå. VTI has an annual turnover of around 300 million SEK.

The Vehicle Systems and Driving Simulation unit (FSK) conducts prominent research in vehicle systems, vehicle technology, and simulation. Applications exist across all modes of transport and often target technology development in electrification, autonomy, digitalization, and the transition to a sustainable transport system. Much of the activity takes place in collaboration with other units and external parties, often related to behavioral science issues or research related to environmental and energy issues. The unit develops and operates part of VTI's important research equipment; advanced driving simulators, VR/XR labs, and equipment for measuring road and tire interaction. Much of the software for this equipment is developed in-house, which constitutes a large part of the operation.
