ST Physician at the National Board of Forensic Medicine in Gothenburg

We are now looking for a ST physician for the forensic medicine unit in Gothenburg, with a desired start date in May 2026. The unit consists of 27 employees in various professional groups who together work to conduct forensic autopsies and issue forensic certificates.

Your Assignment

The National Board of Forensic Medicine is responsible for the specialized training of physicians in the specialty of forensic medicine. The training follows an individual educational program and lasts for at least five years. The main part of the ST training consists of practical and theoretical work in forensic medicine, but the training also includes law, criminalistics, and some clinical activities including clinical pathology. On-call duty in the evenings and weekends is included in the training.

Qualifications

• To be considered for employment, you must meet one of the following two conditions:
• hold a Swedish medical license, or
• have completed a medical degree and at least 12 months of your internship
• Driving license (B)
• Very good ability to communicate orally and in writing in Swedish
• Good ability to communicate orally and in writing in English

Meritorious

• Experience in Swedish forensic medicine or clinical pathology
• Practical experience in autopsy operations

This position requires you to have a very good ability to create well-functioning relationships, as both internal and external contacts are a central and important part of the work. You also need to have a very good ability to both receive and provide feedback in daily work. To succeed in the position, you must also have a very good ability to plan and prioritize your tasks, as well as a very high initiative and analytical ability, as it is crucial that you process information in a structured and efficient manner.

The work is psychologically challenging as death investigations generally involve difficult events; to handle the stresses of the job, both high integrity and personal maturity, as well as an ethical approach, are required. An interest in development work and research is an advantage.

The Employment

The employment is a permanent full-time position located in Gothenburg, starting with a six-month probationary period. The start date is in May or by agreement. The authority's units are located in various places in Sweden, so travel in the service may occur. The National Board of Forensic Medicine applies individual salary setting.

The Department of Forensic Medicine conducts approximately 5,500 forensic autopsies each year on behalf of the police and prosecutors. We also investigate suspected perpetrators and victims of violent crimes. Within the Department of Forensic Medicine, there are six forensic units located in Umeå, Uppsala, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Linköping, and Lund.
