Department of Surgical Sciences (IKV) at Uppsala University

The Department of Surgical Sciences (IKV) at Uppsala University has approximately 160 employees and around 230 registered doctoral students, most of whom are clinically active physicians, nurses, and radiographers.

The turnover is 152 million. The department conducts research and teaching at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Teaching is conducted, among other things, within the medical, nursing, radiography, and specialist nursing programs. Research is carried out in research groups organized according to different surgical specialties and related subjects such as anesthesia, intensive care, and radiology. Research is also conducted in collaboration between different research groups within IKV and at other departments at Uppsala University as well as with other universities both in Sweden and internationally. Many of the department's employees hold positions associated with roles at the Academic Hospital.

Description of the Subject Area

Radiography is an interdisciplinary field that draws knowledge primarily from nursing, medical imaging and functional medicine, radiation physics, and medicine. Radiography involves all four areas and their interrelations. For the development of knowledge in radiography, the interaction between the theoretical and practical components of the main area is central. Within the main area of radiography, individual, family, and societal perspectives are considered. The foundation of a radiographer's work is the interaction with people of all ages who have different medical care needs. The radiography program is a three-year degree program that leads to licensure and is administered by the Department of Surgical Sciences.

We are now seeking a university lecturer in radiography who wants to help develop the radiography program at Uppsala University while also working clinically as a radiographer.

Job Responsibilities

The position includes teaching, research, and administration within the radiography program and advanced courses in radiography. Teaching includes course responsibility, student assessment, and course administration. Research encompasses both independent research and supervision of doctoral students conducted within the framework of the research. Job responsibilities also include keeping up with developments in the subject area and societal developments that are relevant to the work at the university. The position also includes clinical duties as a radiographer at the Academic Hospital, corresponding to 33% of the position.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible for appointment as a university lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skills, has obtained a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills that are relevant to the subject matter of the appointment and the job responsibilities that will be included in the position (HF 4 chap. 4 §). According to 5 § Employment Regulations for Uppsala University (AO), the general eligibility requirement for teachers is that the applicant must have the personal qualities, including the ability to collaborate and otherwise meet the suitability requirements necessary to perform the job responsibilities well.

The scientific competence must have been demonstrated through independent research efforts of high quality. The applicant's contributions to the international and national scientific community will be assessed based on the quality and extent of scientific publication (34 § AO).

The pedagogical competence must have been demonstrated through merits in education in accordance with 22 § AO. A prerequisite for pedagogical competence to be considered is completion of relevant higher education pedagogical training, comprising at least ten weeks, or equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the higher education pedagogical training can be completed during the first two years of employment (35 § AO).

For this position, it is required that you are a licensed radiographer and have at least 4 years of clinical experience as a radiographer. The experience should be current and not more than 2 years old. The applicant must have documented ability to teach in Swedish (6 § AO).
