Field Description
Clinical pharmacology is a broad and interdisciplinary field that is central to the development of individualized drug therapy.

Job Responsibilities
The person appointed is expected to lead and develop research in clinical pharmacology and actively contribute to education at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. The appointee will supervise doctoral students and contribute to the development of the research environment, including actively seeking external research funding.
The position also includes clinical work as a specialist physician in clinical pharmacology at Akademiska sjukhuset, which means a close connection between research, education, and clinical practice.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for appointment as a professor, the candidate must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical competence (HF 4 kap 3 §). According to the Employment Ordinance for Uppsala University (AO), the general eligibility requirement for teachers is to possess the personal qualities necessary to perform the duties of the position well (AO § 5).
Scientific competence must be demonstrated through independent research efforts and by the candidate's qualifications being of very high quality in an international perspective.
Pedagogical competence must be demonstrated through extensive qualifications in education (see AO 22 §). Furthermore, the candidate must show well-documented competence in supervision at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. A prerequisite for pedagogical competence is completion of relevant higher education pedagogical training, comprising at least ten weeks, or equivalent knowledge.
Eligibility for this position requires a medical degree and a Swedish certificate of specialist competence in clinical pharmacology.
Assessment Criteria
In the selection among eligible applicants, primary emphasis will be placed on scientific competence and subsequently on pedagogical competence. However, a balanced assessment will be made so that an applicant with a significant advantage in pedagogical competence may be ranked higher than an applicant with a certain advantage in scientific competence. Clinical competence, as well as leadership and collaboration, are also significant for the position and will be weighted accordingly.
Scientific competence refers to research qualifications. In assessing scientific competence, scientific quality will be prioritized. The scope of research, primarily regarding depth and breadth, will also be considered. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the doctoral level, the ability to obtain funding for research in competition, as well as the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society through research will be given importance.
Pedagogical competence refers to educational qualifications. In assessing pedagogical competence, pedagogical quality will be prioritized. The scope, both breadth and depth, will also be considered. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop education and teaching, as well as the ability to connect research to teaching, will be given importance. The ability to interact on higher education pedagogical issues with stakeholders within and outside the university is also included in pedagogical competence.
Assessment Criteria, Other Competence
Administrative competence and leadership competence are significant for the position and will be weighted accordingly. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society as well as to inform about research and development work will be taken into account.
Administrative competence is demonstrated, among other things, by the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively and in a manner suited to the purpose, as well as by the ability to set and adhere to deadlines.
Leadership competence is demonstrated by the ability to lead operations and personnel, make decisions, take responsibility, and motivate and provide others with the conditions necessary to effectively achieve common goals.
In a comprehensive assessment of the applicants' qualifications, parental leave, part-time work due to childcare, union duties, military service, or similar will be considered as work experience (94 § AO).
When the university is to hire new teachers, applicants will be selected based on a qualitative overall assessment of competence and skills, judged to have the best conditions to carry out and develop the relevant tasks and contribute to a positive development of the operations (4 § AO).
The gender equality aspect will be applied in hiring if, after a qualitative assessment, it appears that two applicants of different genders have equivalent or nearly equivalent qualifications and if one gender is underrepresented (constituting less than 40% within the relevant job category and at the relevant workplace) (95 § AO).
All qualifications must be documented so that both quality and scope can be assessed.
In the assessment of submitted applications, international experts may be consulted. In this event, application documents written in Swedish may need to be sent to a translator engaged by the university.
