City Lawyer for Malmö City
Job Responsibilities
As a city lawyer, you will be responsible for legal matters concerning the municipal executive board and the municipal council, as well as providing legal support to the city office's organization. You will prepare cases for the municipal executive board and respond to referrals. Your assignment also includes providing advice and support on legal matters to the city's administrations and companies, conducting training, and representing Malmö City in court and before other authorities.
As a city lawyer, you will engage with several areas of law, including municipal law, administrative law, contract law, and public access and confidentiality. You will analyze and implement legal changes into working methods that ensure Malmö City complies with laws and regulations. You will develop and implement procedures and guidelines to ensure that the city's decisions and processes are legally secure. You will draft and review contracts.
In addition to your daily tasks as a city lawyer, you will participate in the unit's development work. Our ongoing development focuses on becoming even better at seeing, syncing, and gathering as a unit, department, and administration.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- Law degree or equivalent legal education
- At least four years of relevant work experience in qualified legal work within public administration, including experience with presentation techniques
- Excellent knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written
- Good knowledge of English
- Good knowledge of Office 365.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Completed notarization service.

About the Workplace
The Department of Internal Management and Coordination is responsible for finance, planning, monitoring, HR, communication, and internal support and services at the city office, as well as support to the municipal executive board and the municipal council. The Legal and Secretariat Unit is part of the department and provides administrative support to municipal councilors and political bodies, planning and conducting elections in Malmö, managing case processes, and handling the city's document and case management, as well as overarching issues within Malmö City and the city's whistleblower function. The unit provides legal advice to the municipality's bodies, companies, and foundations, promotes legal certainty, and prevents disputes. The unit includes six lawyers, an investigator, a data protection specialist, and the municipality's data protection officer.
The city office directs, challenges, and strengthens the development potential in the organization, the city, and the region. We are the administration of the municipal executive board and work with a holistic perspective close to the city's leadership. The city office consists of seven different departments and has approximately 300 employees. Our departments work across a broad spectrum of areas, and the administration has many employees with high specialist competence.
