Subject Area

Medical imaging with a focus on in vivo imaging techniques.

Subject Description

Medical imaging with a focus on in vivo imaging techniques refers to the imaging of the living human and combines the development of advanced imaging techniques and image processing for improved diagnostics and treatment in healthcare as well as in research on medical issues in vivo. These imaging techniques may include several modalities, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray, computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, positron emission tomography (PET), and optical methods, often in combination. The techniques are also often used to extract image-based biomarkers, which can provide valuable information about disease conditions and treatment effects. The subject area encompasses technical innovation in imaging and image analysis as well as the clinical implementation of this technology for improved healthcare outcomes and evidence-based medicine.

Job Responsibilities

The assistant professor is expected to establish and lead their own research group in medical imaging with a focus on in vivo imaging techniques that can complement and collaborate with existing research groups in the Department of Medical Imaging at the School of Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Health (CBH) at KTH. The assistant professor is expected to contribute to strengthening KTH's position in the subject area and further develop research and application of advanced imaging techniques in healthcare.

This includes initiating new research projects, obtaining research grants, establishing collaborations, educating and supervising students and younger researchers at the master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels, managing the group's finances, and maintaining a safe, stimulating, and healthy work environment. The job responsibilities also include teaching and program and course development at the undergraduate, master's, or doctoral level in medical technology.

Furthermore, the assistant professor is expected to represent KTH, the CBH school, and the Department of Medical Technology and Health Systems in general, scientific presentations, networking, and developing leadership to further advance medical imaging both nationally and internationally.

The assistant professor will be given the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and gain qualifications that may qualify them for another teaching position that has higher requirements for eligibility (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Higher Education Ordinance).
