Job Advertisement: Hospital Deacon at Akademiska Hospital
The Church of Sweden in Uppsala consists of six urban parishes working together and is also responsible for Uppsala cemeteries. Five of the parishes formed the Uppsala pastorate in 2014 with a joint board and management. Together, we aim to be the local church for 180,000 residents of Uppsala.
The Hospital Church at Akademiska Hospital is seeking a hospital deacon at 100% due to retirement. The Hospital Church is an ecumenical effort and the extended arm of the churches in the hospital.
Akademiska Hospital is a large leading university hospital with core values of developing competence, treating people with respect and engagement, and building on collaboration, trust, and endurance in the long term.
The Hospital Church aims to meet the vision and contribute with competence and knowledge regarding spiritual care. Our role as an external actor in the hospital requires visibility and availability, which is maintained, among other things, through readiness where staff are available for patients, relatives, and staff for 4380 hours per year. The work of the Hospital Church is a trust-based effort where responsiveness, competence, and availability are the primary tools. Our task is often to become an interpreter for the existential and spiritual needs that arise in care. In a year, we meet approximately 4500 people in the hospital, where patients and relatives are the largest group.
We are looking for someone who wants to join the team of 6 people, specifically two deacons, three priests, and one pastor. Collaboration within the team is important in combination with independent work. The position has a special focus on psychiatry and mental health. As a hospital deacon, you are also part of the work team in Uppsala Cathedral Parish. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
Main Responsibilities
- Readiness 9–21 according to schedule
- Contact for the Hospital Church within psychiatry

- Is ordained as a deacon in the Church of Sweden, preferably with a healthcare or social work education as a basic qualification
