Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and Pain Center

We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. In addition to our role as a regional hospital, we provide highly specialized care to two million people in central Sweden. There is always something happening with us – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero of life. We believe that honesty lasts the longest, and it is no secret that we need to grow. As a colleague with us, you will experience much. Tough challenges but also fantastic events, strong community, and support from colleagues and fellow human beings. Welcome with your application and become a part of us.

Our Operations

The Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Pain Center consists of four sections: health professions, pain center, geriatrics, and rehabilitation medicine. All sections are characterized by well-functioning interprofessional collaboration, something we are very proud of. We want you to feel welcome with us; as a newcomer, you will be offered guidance, an introduction program, and professional networks. We are experts in rehabilitation but always strive to become even better. A major focus is placed on research and progress, both within and outside the hospital. As an employee, you are an important part of this; it is natural for you to want to develop and drive the operations forward.

Within the department, 35 social workers work in somatic care, both in inpatient and outpatient care. You will be employed in the Health Professions department within women's health and oncology. Your clinical placement will be in women's health and infectious diseases.

Being a social worker at Akademiska sjukhuset is an exciting job where you meet people in many different situations. You will be part of a skilled team that supports and helps each other while also working independently. You can expect a varied job with challenging tasks. The introduction will be tailored to your needs, and an individual competence plan will be created annually with your immediate supervisor. Knowledge development also occurs through network meetings and interprofessional meetings.

Your Mission

The position is divided with 50% placement at the Reproductive Center (RPC) and 50% in infectious diseases. At the Reproductive Center, several different professions work with assisted reproduction. Complex investigations and advanced treatments for involuntary infertility are carried out for both men and women. The social worker's role at RPC differs from the traditional hospital social worker's role as the tasks primarily involve investigation rather than treatment and counseling support. At RPC, the social worker conducts psychosocial investigations and assessments that are part of a legislated examination that all patients applying for assisted reproduction with donated gametes must undergo. The social worker at RPC is also part of the investigation conducted for egg and sperm donors.

The other part of your placement is in the infectious diseases department. There, you will primarily meet patients who are hospitalized due to various severe infections and are experiencing a crisis related to that.

The work involves close contact between patients and staff, which places high demands on good treatment, flexibility, and well-developed collaboration skills. You are part of a staffing group where you support each other in daily work with other social workers.

Common Tasks Include:

  • Crisis support
  • Psychosocial investigation and treatment work
  • Supportive, advisory, and processing conversations with patients and relatives
  • Leading groups
  • Coordinating contacts with authorities and other healthcare providers
  • Supervising social work students
  • Participating in development work

Your Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in social work and preferably previous experience as a social worker in healthcare. Being a licensed healthcare social worker is considered an advantage. You need to have experience in meeting people in crisis and grief.

Your Competence

Great importance is placed on personal suitability, good collaboration and organizational skills, as well as an interest in development work. As a person, you are secure and open. You have good self-awareness and enjoy working in teams as well as independently. In your work, you are solution-focused and reflective.

We Offer

We offer a one-year temporary position with the possibility of extension. Start as soon as possible or according to agreement.

As an employee of Region Uppsala, you have access to Friskhusets gym, group training, physiotherapy, ergonomics, personal training, lectures, and massage at a favorable price.

With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).

Region Uppsala values the qualities that gender balance and diversity bring to the organization. Therefore, we welcome applicants of all genders and with different backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences.

Region Uppsala will place all permanent staff based on the needs of total defense. This means that for the individual employee, there are no obligations in peacetime, but it is solely a planning measure.

Checks against suspicion and criminal records will be made regarding all individuals that the employer intends to employ or contract for patient-related work based on the possibility that they may work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care of substance abusers, areas that are subject to optional register extracts. This applies to all who will work closely with patients, even if the tasks are not primarily intended to include work with the aforementioned patient groups at present.

This recruitment is conducted entirely through Region Uppsala's efforts. Therefore, we kindly decline phone calls from recruitment companies and advertisement sellers.
