Do you want to help develop Malmö city's overall press and crisis communication? For this exciting key role, we are looking for someone who wants to shape the future of external communication with a focus on strengthening democracy and increasing trust in Malmö city.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will have a city-wide assignment with important overall responsibility. We are looking for an experienced communicator for the communications department at the city office, capable of driving, coordinating, and developing press communication in an organization with many internal and external stakeholders.
You will work together with the press manager to create synergies and set direction for the city's press work, in close collaboration with the city's administrations. The assignment involves proactively developing methods and strategies for the entire city. There will be a particular focus on Malmö city's strategy for external communication and our ability to communicate clearly, coordinated, and trust-building.
You will play a central role in strengthening our reactive capability, both in planned communication and in event-driven situations. In larger events, you will coordinate the communication work and work closely with other key roles at the city office. You will also work as the press officer in other city-wide communication projects.
You will also provide communication support to the city office's unit for security and preparedness in relevant areas such as misinformation, preparedness, and civil defense. Together with your colleagues, you will ensure our accessibility and openness by working with Malmö city's press service, monitoring, and training and coaching spokespersons. You will also staff the communicator on standby according to a rolling schedule.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- an academic degree in media and communication studies, political science, or another field deemed relevant by the employer
- several years of current experience in qualified work as a press and crisis communicator with experience in the entire communication chain from planning and implementation to follow-up
- several years of experience as an advisor and strategic communication support to management and operations in press and crisis communication issues
- several years of experience in independently driving and organizing communication processes and projects with many stakeholders
- very good knowledge of Office 365.
It is meritorious if you have:
- current experience as a communicator in a politically governed organization.
- worked with press communication in various roles and organizations.
- knowledge and experience in preparedness issues and/or civil defense.
You are an analytical communicator who can quickly understand complex issues and see the big picture through dialogue, curiosity, and monitoring. You have strong initiative and can drive issues forward with a constructive and solution-oriented approach. You structure, prioritize, and coordinate both ongoing tasks and larger projects involving multiple stakeholders.
You have good pedagogical skills, are a sharp writer, and can summarize complex issues and contexts for different audiences. It comes naturally to you to create good relationships, collaborations, and valuable networks as you have many contact points. You have very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
About the workplace
The communications department at the city office consists of three units responsible for digital communication, press and crisis communication, and communication development and projects. We work together with a holistic perspective on the city's and city office's communication work, and our mission is to develop the communication area together with the city's other communication functions.
The city office directs, challenges, and strengthens the development power in the organization, in the city, and in the region. We are the municipal executive board's administration and work with a holistic perspective close to the city's leadership. The city office consists of seven different departments and has a total of just over 300 employees. Our departments work within a wide range of areas, and the administration has many employees with high specialist competence.
