Your Responsibilities

As the share of intermittent renewable electricity production increases in the Swedish electricity system, so does the need for controllable production resources. Hydropower has the potential to enhance the flexibility, robustness, and sustainability of the energy system. To utilize this potential, effective water regulation is required, taking into account both climatic and economic aspects.

As a PhD candidate, you will be part of a research project focusing on the control and forecasting of hydropower production using AI. The work will also include studies on how increased digitalization and the use of AI affect the user experience in the daily operations of a hydropower company. Knowledge in AI and/or statistics, an understanding of the user perspective, and the ability to analyze these issues from a broader societal perspective are required for this position.

As a PhD candidate, you will dedicate yourself to your doctoral education and the research project you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental duties, up to 20 percent of full-time.

Your Qualifications

You hold a master's degree in engineering or economics relevant to the doctoral subject of energy systems. You also have knowledge in AI and/or statistics. Alternatively, you have completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level in these subject areas, or have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in other ways. The degree must be obtained by the time of the employment decision.

Very good knowledge of both Swedish and English is advantageous as you will need to use both languages for data collection, documentation, and presentation of results. Knowledge and experience in programming in Python or Matlab is also advantageous. You have a genuine interest in energy issues in general and see this as an important part of the ongoing transition.

Your Workplace

You will be part of the Department of Energy Systems at the Institute of Economic and Industrial Development. Creating an inclusive research environment where staff have a high level of participation is important to us. The department has just over 20 employees, including 12 PhD candidates, conducting research and undergraduate education in energy systems.
