Your tasks

A central challenge in computational mathematics and machine learning is ensuring reliability and trust. This is particularly important in areas such as medical diagnostics, weather forecasting, and aircraft design. To meaningfully increase the reliability of mathematical models and machine learning methods (e.g., neural networks), innovative and scalable methods are required that effectively and accurately capture, represent, and analyze uncertainties within well-founded frameworks.

As a PhD student, you will be part of Jan Glaubitz's research group and develop your own research agenda within the group's research areas at the intersection of inverse problems, Bayesian learning, and uncertainty quantification. The specific project will be tailored to your background and interests.

Your qualifications

You have completed a master's degree in mathematics, computer science, computational science, Computational Science & Engineering, or a related field, or have completed courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.

Furthermore, you should be driven and motivated to continuously develop. You should also have a good command of English, as you will actively participate in international collaborations. Finally, you should have some programming experience.

Your workplace

You will be employed at the Department of Applied Mathematics in a welcoming and international work environment. The research group in computational mathematics is one of the most active in Scandinavia over the past decade. The group is characterized by work with fundamental mathematical and computational tools within numerical analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and uncertainty quantification with many applications.
