Your Responsibilities
Folkungaskolan is now expanding its operations with two full-time mentors. Since these are new positions at the school, you will have the opportunity to help build working methods and collaborations.
Full-time mentors are tasked with relieving teaching staff of responsibilities related to mentoring students. In the role of full-time mentor, you will work with student support. This means that:
- Participate in the student health and safety work at the school
- Work with communication with guardians and other stakeholders
- Participate in mentoring sessions, development talks, parent meetings, etc.
- Encourage and coach students as well as work with motivational efforts, support during lessons or other parts of the school day
- Follow up on students' attendance/absence and work with corrective measures
- Help students with structure support, study planning, and study techniques
- Be available to students as an adult presence in the school environment and during breaks
You will also work on implementing developed action plans for individual students, both preventively and directly with rules of order and study environment. The role of full-time mentor with us involves many collaborative opportunities within our organization. You are expected to collaborate with the deputy principal, teachers, other full-time mentors, as well as other professionals within our student health team and other important adults at the school.
As a full-time mentor at Folkungaskolan 7-9, you will primarily work with half of the school's classes. The role involves a varied everyday life where you work with different types of support through both planned and more urgent interventions and activities. You are expected to drive your work independently while collaborating with the regular mentors, student health staff, teaching teachers, support staff, and school management for these classes.
Your Workplace
Folkungaskolan is a combined primary and secondary school with about 1500 students and approximately 170 teachers. The school is located in central Linköping within comfortable walking distance from the city. The mix of students from both primary school and high school makes Folkungaskolan something unique, not only in Linköping but in the entire country.
Folkungaskolan's grades 7-9 consist of seven parallel classes with about 630 students in total, where all students have a profile or focus area. The school has three different profiles: Dance profile, Choir profile, and Art and Design profile. The school also has three different focus areas: Future focus, Music production focus, and Home and Consumer Studies focus.

Who You Are
It is a requirement that you have a pedagogical, social, or behavioral science education at the upper secondary or post-secondary level. For example, we welcome candidates with training as a teaching assistant, teacher, or counselor. Alternatively, you have another education or experience that the employer deems equivalent.
It is a requirement that you have previous experience working with young people in a school context. Good computer skills and the ability to handle digital tools are necessary.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Experience in student health work
- Work experience with students in secondary school
- Knowledge of various conversation methods, such as motivational interviewing
- Knowledge of working with children's and young people's language skills
- Experience working with youth or students in need of support, such as those with high school absenteeism or mental health issues
- Knowledge of laws and regulations in primary school
Since communication and documentation are a significant part of the job, it is a requirement that you have good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
As a person, you are outgoing and enjoy creating professional relationships while being able to distinguish between the personal and professional. You have good collaboration skills, where you smoothly relate to and address the individual needs of support for students and colleagues. By inspiring and motivating others, you create participation and engagement. Furthermore, you find it easy to communicate clearly and follow up on agreements. Often, long-term efforts and relationship-building are needed to help young people. This requires patience and the ability to adjust your methods when necessary.
