Job Advertisement: Researcher in Antenna Technology
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defence and security to support Sweden's military and civil defence. The research spans several areas, such as underwater, cyber defence, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defence, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defence capability.
Would you like to help strengthen Sweden's total defence, in a dynamic workplace, with innovative colleagues and at the forefront of technology? The Electronic Warfare Department at FOI in Linköping is in a very expansive phase and we are looking for someone who wants to use their knowledge in antenna technology to contribute to Sweden's security!
About the Position
You will, together with others, participate in research on antenna technology regarding e.g. antenna near signal processing, interference suppression (adaptive signal processing), direction finding, simulation, interference, and reception. Tasks may include:
- Providing expert support within projects based on your specialist knowledge, such as design/development of new antenna solutions
- Evaluating adaptive signal processing (multi-channel systems) for interference suppression and direction finding with a focus on antenna solutions
- Analyzing collected measurement data and drawing conclusions
- Participating in the development of capabilities for new systems and evaluating existing systems
- Reviewing/writing reports for clients
- Participating in national and international collaborations; travel may occur.
Since our unit has a large technical scope, there are great opportunities for varied tasks. This may involve working both theoretically, with models and simulations, and practically with testing real systems.
Our projects are relatively small in terms of personnel, which means your contribution will be part of a whole where you will also have a great opportunity to influence project results and deepen your expertise in your specialist area. Since we test systems in realistic environments with field measurements, it is advantageous if you also appreciate staying outside of office and lab environments.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Electronic Countermeasures unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare Department. We develop and research new systems in the radio field for protection against unmanned systems and radio-controlled threats, as well as developing jamming and protection technologies for positioning, navigation, timing (PNT), and GNSS. We develop the entire chain from algorithms to prototypes, which are often tested in real environments together with our clients. We are a workplace with a strong sense of community where those who are curious about new technology and have good collaboration skills will thrive. We work closely with the Armed Forces (FM) and the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) but also have good contacts with the academic world, international collaborations, the development industry, and other authorities such as MSB.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- A Master's degree in engineering physics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- Knowledge in antenna technology/antenna theory
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
As an employee at FOI, you will have a job with great opportunities for personal influence, and it is expected that you are proactive and self-driven, as well as curious about new technology and innovative solutions. Since you will be working in project form, you need to enjoy developing solutions together with others and be goal- and result-oriented, with a flexible mindset.
We want to utilize all your skills and interests, so you are welcome to describe any other competencies you wish to continue developing with us.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
Meritorious
It is meritorious but not necessary to have competence and work experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Antenna design
- Radio communication
- AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array)
- GNSS
- UAV systems
- Signal processing in e.g. MIMO or adaptive signal processing.
