Do you have an eye for detail and a high standard of quality? Do you enjoy working both independently and as part of a close-knit team? Are you intrigued by the idea of working in an innovative scale-up with unique technology alongside colleagues from different parts of the world? At Westra Materials, we are now looking for a responsible, organized, and reliable laboratory technician who wants to be part of our growing team! Are you the one we are looking for?
About us
At Westra Materials, our vision is to create a greener tomorrow by enhancing the performance of batteries and capacitors with high-performance, temperature-resistant conductive polymers, developed with cost-effective and scalable technologies to drive the sustainable electrification of the future. Since our journey began in 2020, we have quickly made significant strides toward becoming a key player in the global battery ecosystem. With 15 patents and over 30 customers worldwide, and a spot on NyTeknik's 33 list of the most exciting startups in Sweden, we are paving the way for the future of electrification.
Westra was born by the “Strömmen” - the river that flows from west to east through Norrköping, steadily carving its path through both landscape and industry, and still flowing with full force just outside our office in the heart of Norrköping. Westra is about movement, not just through nature but also through ideas. It reflects a shift away from harmful materials towards something cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable.
About the role
As a laboratory technician, you will contribute to Westra's growth by working hands-on to develop conductive polymers and ink formulations. This requires a practical and curious approach to chemistry and analytical characterization. As part of our dynamic team, you will work both independently and closely with colleagues, giving you the chance to learn from experienced staff while also contributing your own ideas and perspectives. As we are a growing company and the role of laboratory technician is dynamic, the tasks may evolve or change. Currently, we need support with the following:
- Perform work in our laboratory safely and scientifically accurately.
- Assist in the synthesis and formulation of conductive polymers and inks, ensuring reproducibility and precision in line with our development goals.
- Conduct chemical and electrical characterization tests.
- Collaborate with the team in daily operations.
- Report laboratory results accurately and in a timely manner.
- Be responsible for laboratory equipment.
- Review inventory levels of laboratory materials and manage calibration and schedules for equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is still at the beginning of their career and wants to grow and develop within chemical engineering! The role is based in our office and laboratory in the industrial landscape of Norrköping, where we are located in HOPE, a meeting place for companies in printed and organic electronics.
Who are we looking for?
We believe you will thrive in this role if you are a meticulous, reliable, and responsible person who always strives for high quality in your work. You are happy to follow instructions while also taking on challenges and solving problems that arise. You are well-organized and have a good ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. You are also comfortable working independently while having the ability to collaborate successfully with different people. Since the role is dynamic, you need to be quick to learn and comfortable working under tight deadlines. In addition, we see that you:
- Have a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a similar technical field.
- Have at least 1 year of experience with processes and methodologies in a laboratory (preferably within industry)
It is advantageous if you have knowledge of synthetic polymers and previous experience from a startup or scale-up environment where you have learned to adapt to rapid changes. At Westra Materials, you will work with and learn from experienced engineers who will support you along the way. Since our team consists of colleagues from different parts of the world, it is important that you can communicate professionally and comfortably in English, both in writing and speaking.
