Job Advertisement: Analyst in Radar Signatures

The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive materials), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

Do you want to work at the forefront of technology and contribute to Sweden's defense capability? With us, you will have a key role in the development of future protection and detection capabilities. We offer a balanced work life, a developing work environment, and a socially important job!

About the Position

We are looking for someone who wants to work with the analysis and calculation of radar signatures – how military platforms are perceived by radar systems. Through electromagnetic modeling and numerical calculations, you will contribute to a better understanding of how radar waves interact with various objects, and how this knowledge can be used to reduce visibility or improve detection.

You will be part of a competent team of experienced researchers and specialists, where the work spans from research and development to more applied calculation assignments in close collaboration with the Armed Forces. The role includes modeling, calculating, analyzing, and evaluating radar signatures for various military platforms – directly impacting Sweden's defense technology development.

With us, you will work on complex issues in an environment where your expertise makes a real difference.

About the Unit

You will be part of the Radar Signatures unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare department. Our mission is to support Sweden's defense by assessing the utility of various technologies, methods, and products in the field of radar signatures.

Do you have the skill profile we need?

Requirements

  • A master's degree in engineering or a master's degree in technical physics, electrical engineering, physics, or another orientation that FOI deems equivalent
  • Knowledge in physical modeling and numerical simulations
  • Knowledge in programming with a focus on scientific calculations
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

We place great emphasis on your personal qualities. As a person, you need to be self-driven, proactive, and responsible with a good ability to collaborate and solve problems. You have a strong drive and willingness to take on new challenges. If radar and electromagnetism are new to you, you are open to broadening your knowledge in these areas.

Meritorious

  • Knowledge in electromagnetic field theory and electromagnetic calculations
  • Experience with larger software for numerical simulations
  • Research or a PhD with a physical orientation
  • Experience with radar systems
  • Experience in research activities, or equivalent knowledge in method and methodology development.
