About us

The Psychiatric Emergency Department serves the entire adult psychiatry at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. We are located at Östra Hospital. The patient group is over 18 years old, has acute psychiatric issues, and requires immediate assessment for appropriate care, either in the form of psychiatric inpatient care, psychiatric outpatient care, or follow-up via a health center. The emergency department's tasks also include the Consultant Physician function, the Self-Protection Unit, and the Psychiatry Ambulance. The workgroup consists of 46 employees.

Job Responsibilities

All nurses with us have a central role with significant responsibility. This position also includes being a team leader for both nurses and nursing assistants. You collaborate closely with primary and secondary on-call teams. Your workday offers many points of contact – you have ongoing dialogue with ambulance personnel, other emergency departments, social services, police, NTE, and receiving care departments. The role also includes some telephone advice to 1177.

An important part of your responsibility is to assess, prioritize, and re-prioritize patients before medical assessment – always focusing on creating a smooth and safe patient flow.

The work is varied, and the pace can change quickly – it requires flexibility, good collaboration skills, and confidence in delegating and making quick decisions. You contribute to building a positive work climate, where collaboration and teamwork are in focus.

Mentoring students, actively participating in improvement work, and eventually introducing new employees and taking on more qualified tasks is an important and natural part of your professional development. The operational area offers excellent conditions for further education and training in your professional role. The work requires that you are confident in your leadership role and can delegate tasks. You can handle complex assessments in difficult situations and know when and where to seek help from other instances. We will ensure that you receive an extended period of shadowing and internal training in leadership.

In the event of recruitment of a physician/nurse with foreign credentials/specialist certificates, the current position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish credentials/specialist certificates.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will be part of the Clinical Basic Year, which is our introductory program. The Clinical Basic Year is mandatory and lasts for the first year of your employment with us. The Clinical Basic Year includes lectures, nursing supervision, and practical training of your profession at the Simulator Center. In addition, it also includes service in at least two different departments to broaden your competence.
