Social Worker Family Unit - Reception Function

Social Administration, Individual and Family Care, Family Unit, Vara Municipality

We are embarking on an exciting development journey within social services and are now expanding our reception unit to better adapt our operations to the new social services act.

We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of children and young people and who feels confident meeting people in difficult life situations. As a social worker in the reception unit, you will often be the first point of contact for children and families and have the opportunity to work closely with both families and internal and external partners. You will be the frontline contact who can guide families to services without prior investigation.

Do you want to help shape the future of social services in Vara?

At the Family Unit, we meet children and families when they need us the most. We operate under the Social Services Act (SoL) and the Act on Special Provisions for the Care of Young People (LVU), using methods such as Children’s Needs in Focus (BBiC) and approaches from Signs of Safety. You will receive reports of concern and applications regarding children aged 0–17, conduct risk and safety assessments, and preliminary assessments before potential investigations. Part of your work will involve providing advice, support, and guidance to families, other professionals, and partners, as well as creating dialogue and providing accurate information about the work of social services.

We are looking for someone who is a social worker or has equivalent education and experience in authority work with children and young people. You have a clear child perspective, are confident in your professional role, and in meeting people in difficult life situations. You have an interest in areas such as norm-breaking behavior, mental health issues, domestic violence, and children’s rights and needs. You are attentive, adapt your communication to the situation and audience, take responsibility for your tasks, and contribute to a respectful work environment.

With us, you will have freedom under responsibility, strong collegial support, and access to supervision and continuous professional development. We offer flexibility with the possibility of remote work and strive for a balance between on-site presence and recovery. In 2027, the entire Individual and Family Care will move into newly renovated and operationally adapted premises, which will further strengthen collaboration and well-being.

Vara is a municipality where we do things together. We have short paths between decision and action and good cooperation with other services such as schools and healthcare, for example through our school social team (SST) and SAMBU. We are starting work with SSPF at IFO at the turn of the year and are working long-term with employee participation, leadership, and values. As an employee, you will also have access to professional development, wellness benefits, and activities through our recreational association.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability. Selection and interviews will take place continuously during the application period, so please submit your application today. We look forward to hearing from you and warmly welcome your application.

With us in Vara Municipality, you will have engaged colleagues and managers, training and development opportunities, as well as benefits in the form of wellness grants.

All employees are also members of our Recreational Association, which organizes sports activities and other leisure and cultural activities, and you will receive discounts on certain events at Vara Concert Hall.

In Vara Municipality, we make each other better, and it is together with our ethical compass that we achieve our common goals!
