Communicator for the Police Work Unit
The Police Work Unit at Umeå University is now seeking a communicator for a permanent part-time position (50%) with a desired start date as soon as possible.
About the Workplace
The Police Work Unit conducts police training on behalf of the Police Authority. We are constantly focused on developing professional police officers who act for a safer society, for the development of Swedish police, and for lifelong learning. Within the main area of police work, independent courses, a master's program, and from autumn 2025, Sweden's first doctoral studies in the field of police science will also be offered. We also conduct further training for police officers as well as other external education and external research activities. The unit is led by a director and currently has 35 employees. The unit also purchases teaching services from several other institutions and from the Police Authority – a total of about eighty staff members are involved in the operations. Job Responsibilities
The role of the communicator at the Police Work Unit involves managing parts of the unit's external and internal communication. This work includes, among other things, responsibility for the design and maintenance of the unit's external website and social media. The communicator will also work on planning and executing events and external visits at the unit, as well as supporting research groups in their external communication by, for example, writing news notices, materials for press releases, and other editorial texts.
The work also involves designing printed materials, such as brochures, advertisements, and posters, as well as working as a photographer and digital media producer, and participating in the creation of digital learning resources in collaboration with teaching staff.
As a communicator, you will work operationally and strategically with communication efforts in a changing and growing research and educational environment. The tasks may change over time.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with an academic degree focused on digital media production, and who has documented experience working with web design, graphic communication, layout, photography, and film production.
We want you to have experience identifying, prioritizing, planning, driving, and following up on communication issues, and that you have experience from working with various events. You have experience publishing in web publishing systems and documented familiarity with programs in Adobe Creative Suite. You also have experience working with Episerver and Sharepoint.
Previous experience working with communication efforts in research and educational environments is highly meritorious. Experience working as a communicator or digital media producer in the context of commissioned education in general and police training in particular is also highly meritorious.
You should be able to express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English. The work requires a high sense of service, good communication skills, and the ability to work in a structured manner even when the work involves several simultaneous ongoing processes. You work well in different teams and are good at collaborating and building relationships in both larger and smaller contexts and networks. You are an outgoing person who takes initiative and can independently drive your tasks forward. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
Application
Your application should include a CV, a cover letter, and evidence of previous work in web design, graphic communication, layout, photography, film production, and work in Adobe Creative Suite. Apply by 2025-12-26.
For more information about the position, please contact Daniel Skog, Director, at 090-786 95 75.
We look forward to your application!
