Controller at the Total Defence Research Institute (FOI)
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analyses. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capability.

About the position
In the role of Department Controller, you will have overall responsibility for the department's financial management. This means ensuring that the department adheres to the agency's guidelines, directives, and processes, as well as ensuring that conditions exist for good financial management of the department. You will be responsible for the department's budget, follow-up, and investment processes and will play a central role in the department's task management. You will drive and coordinate the department's operational processes in the form of action plans and risk analyses. Your assignment includes informing and supporting the department's managers, project leaders, and other employees regarding financial matters. You will also lead the department's economists and collaborate with the agency's other controllers on various issues.
You will report to the department head and be part of the department's management team, where we collectively develop goals, strategies, processes, and working methods and follow up on our operations.
About the unit
The department's mission is to provide expert support for both military and civilian actors within total defense through long-term research, focusing on chemical and biological weapons, nuclear weapons, and their radiological consequences.
The department currently consists of about 175 employees. Most of the operations are located in Umeå, but we also have operations in Kista. Our assignments mainly consist of research grants from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and our total turnover is approximately 350 million SEK. Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone with an academic degree in economics and several years of experience in operational and financial management as well as budget work. You can put numbers in context and understand how they affect the whole. You also have experience, interest, and a good ability to develop processes and working methods within an organization.
As a person, you are structured with a good ability to organize and prioritize work effectively, with a strong focus on quality and accuracy. You are also self-driven and take the initiative to drive and develop your work independently. At the same time, you have a good ability and enjoy collaborating with others. You are good at communicating verbally and in writing and have an interest in conveying economic understanding throughout the organization. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
Meritorious
You should have advanced knowledge of Excel, as it is your primary working tool. It is also advantageous if you have previously worked within a government agency or in larger companies.

The position is a permanent employment that may start with a six-month probationary period.
The position is based in Umeå. Travel is included in the position.
