About us

Umeå District Court is one of five district courts in the country that serves as an environmental court. The court has approximately 80 employees, of which currently over 30 work at the environmental court. The court reviews decisions according to, among others, the Environmental Code, the Property Formation Act, and the Planning and Building Act, and handles, as the first instance, issues such as permits for environmentally hazardous activities and water activities. The jurisdiction of the environmental court covers all of Norrbotten County, most of Västerbotten County, and a smaller part of Västernorrland County.

The work involves

As a reporting lawyer, you will prepare cases, conduct legal investigations, present cases for decisions, act as a minute-taker at oral hearings, draft proposals for judgments and decisions, and independently decide on simpler cases. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the court's legal judges, technical advisors, and court administrators.

Who you are

You should have a law degree and be qualified as a notary when the position is to be filled. We place great emphasis on legal skill, judgment, and the ability to collaborate. Knowledge in the court's areas of law and procedural law, as well as a genuine interest in the court's areas of operation, is valuable. You also enjoy taking responsibility for driving cases towards a decision and are happy to work as the spider in the web in contacts within and outside the court. We will place great importance on personal qualities.

Employment conditions

The position is a permanent employment that begins with a six-month probationary period. The work is to some extent associated with travel requiring overnight stays. The Swedish Courts apply individual salary setting. Start date is according to agreement.

Regarding your application

Your application should consist of a CV, cover letter, transcripts from the law program, and a certificate from your notarial service. If you are currently undergoing notarial service, you should instead provide a reference from the court.
