Support Educator at Handhjort in Gamlestaden

Do you want to work in a creative environment where people have the opportunity to develop? We are looking for a support educator for Handhjort, a daily activity according to LSS (the Act on Support and Service for Certain Disabled Persons) in Gamlestaden.

Here you will be part of an engaged team with four support assistants, and together you will guide around 20 participants. The target group consists of individuals with intellectual disabilities who have an interest in creative and textile crafts. With us, participants have the opportunity to express themselves and grow in a safe and inspiring environment.

About the operation

The participants work with textiles, paper, and other materials. The products created are sold in our shop. Therefore, we are looking for someone who wants to support others in developing their creativity and craft. You have an interest in sewing, design language, and textiles, and you see possibilities and are innovative.

The operation is based on clear pedagogical methods, low-arousal responses, and alternative and augmentative communication (AAC). We work with supported employment and can offer individual work tasks for those who want to develop and aim to achieve an individual placement. All participants have the opportunity to receive visual schedules as support. Collaboration is important for the operation to function, and everyone's contributions are vital.

Your role as a support educator

As a support educator, you have overall responsibility for guiding your colleagues in method development and documentation. Besides your specific areas of responsibility, you are part of the workgroup and perform the same tasks as your colleagues. You are a role model for the staff regarding pedagogical work and interaction and actively work to ensure that participants have meaningful activities. You will work closely with and on behalf of the unit manager. You will be part of a network with other educators and collaborate with relatives, guardians, and other key persons to ensure that participants receive an individually tailored and meaningful activity with opportunities for development.

The work shifts are scheduled during the day, Monday to Friday.

About you

We are looking for someone with post-secondary specialization in the disability field that includes at least 200 vocational training points, 120 university credits, or 60 university credits with two years of work experience with people with disabilities. The education should have relevant credits in behavioral science, pedagogy, psychology, social work, and (psychiatric) care or other education that the employer assesses as equivalent.

Communication is an important part of the job, which requires you to have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing. You should have passed Swedish 1 or Swedish as a second language 1. Those who do not meet the qualification requirements may be offered to take a language test through the test user Educateit. We are looking for someone with good knowledge of LSS, SoL, and HSL, and who understands how these laws together govern the operation and how they are applied in daily work. Furthermore, good computer skills are a requirement, as well as knowledge of social documentation.

We are looking for someone with several years of experience working as a support educator and experience working with individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. You should have experience leading colleagues and conducting operational meetings. It is also a requirement to have good knowledge and experience working based on LAB (low-arousal responses), AAC (alternative and augmentative communication), clear pedagogical methods, and IBIC (Individual Needs in Center).

It is an advantage if you have experience planning, creating, and adapting both group activities and individual activities based on participants' needs, conditions, and interests. Experience in creative activities within crafts, such as sewing, textiles, or similar, is also advantageous.
